This forum used to be more useful and educational when we still had cornucopian vs doomer debates.

Now this place is mostly a time sink. As someone once said here: PO.com is the "Myspace of Apocalypse."

When I couldn't log in yesterday I actually got some other computer related things caught up. So Yes, this is definatly a time sink which draws me away from other projects.

Yes, I need to spend more time doing and less reading.

Horrible time sink compared to certain activities.

However, when compared to watching tv, reading popular fiction or twiddling your thumbs, it's a vastly better use of time.

what red state green said, it's not just PO but all the reading I do. Too much while other things get neglected. Positives are I know more (sometimes)useless trivia than anyone I know.

Fifteen minutes a day does not a time sink make. These forums are more like therapy than mere entertainment; it benefits me more than a 15-minute episode of "Metalocalypse."

Learning anything is useful but learning how the future will be and how to survive is never a waste of time. Better than watching soaps or listening to the latest musical drivel.

Open is the best forum on the website IMHO. I spend a ton of time here, and definitely do not consider it a time sink. No more than computers are generally a time sink anyway.

Yeah, it's all about balance. There are certainly worse things I could waste my time on (and do.)

As long as you are not a post whore, and spend all day either posting shit (or thinking about shit you are going to post) it's a great place to take the pulse of the peak-oil debate, among other things. I usually spend a few minutes each day reading the new threads and posts, occasionally making a thread, or replying to something that grabs my attention.

I tend to incorporate this forum in my surfing regimen.

Email...weather...NHL scores, and high lights...
my favorite porn sites...peak-oil...NHL message board...
You Tube...BBC News...peak-oil...more porn...back to peak-oil...I have kind of circular browsing habits.
Until I find some subject or website that consumes my interest. Usually a couple hours a day. Sometimes not at all...sometimes more than a few hours.

The people to ask are pms and monte, who have obviously spent more time on here than should be permitted by law.

This place is a huge waste of time, but when I use to work as a security card 3 years ago when I found this place, it helped to make the time go easier. That was back when this place was really hopping and there were always great late night conversations to be had. The place has really gone down hill in recent years.

When JR says the place has gone downhill, that ought to set off some kind of alarm.

Something crazy will happen in the world soon enough (in addition to the current unfolding craziness) and that will get things popping again. Maybe NEOPO will reincarnate with a little better manners.

Why listen to him? He's a self-described idiot, after all.

What were you doing on your rent-a-cop job surfing the net? That's against post orders in all likelihood. Was at my site anyway, when I'd go to dieoff.org, or try to find a cheap EV. And porn.

I remember Monte explaining to someone how he posts (posted) so much: Formulates his answers instantly, has his data ready including links, types quickly without typos.

Monte's Tar Sands next to some of these maniacs you run into on the blogs, like Pitt the Elder at TOD. Conversation might go askew a bit and he'll have 20 refs ready for something like the history of Chinese gun ownership.

NEO did show up last week - "NEOTHEPO." Poor guy!

This site's great for staying abreast of things, I check latest posts every morning, then Google News, then porn.
