Obviously. If I were you I'd be looking for higher ground, down the line. The Low Countries may in this century be the Submerged Countries.

This is German. So we Dutch would be German speaking Norwegians or something?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dinopello', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PopeGideon', 'D')oes it seem to anybody else that we have a high percentage of Norwegians, relative to other Europeans, on this site?

Norwegians, Netherlands, its all one big blur [smilie=5hypnodisk.gif]

Alright, I'm an idiot. I didn't read closely!

Truth is, I have recently been going over world maps with the kids, so I have the best grip on European countries that I have ever had.

I will admit that I do pigeonhole countries to make it easier to remember.

Norwegians - the folks with lots of oil that allows them to live large, develop hydro and nuclear, and have a false sense of being "green".

Denmark - the country that has high school girls who strip down to their naked tits on stage in front of their teachers and peers, who film it and put it on the Internet. They speak Danish.

Netherlands - also known as Holland - tulips, windmills, chicks with bonnets, dikes and under sea level. They speak Dutch.

That's about all I got on those 3.

I don't know Dutch. I know a little German, which seems quite similar in some ways.

Best I could do.

Sure, no problem. My problem is that for some reason emoticons don't seem to work.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Mr-Eagle', 'H')ello everyone,

I'm a 17 year old student from the Netherlands.

I've been reading these forums for about a year now, a year ago i thought peakoil was nonsense.. but after a couple of months i saw the oilprice passing 70.. 80.. 90.. so i was panicking and i went to read everything about po I could find..

It seems there is a "perfect storm" of events going on right now.. . The dollar is collapsing, inflation, oilproduction is peaking, foodprices are skyrocketing.. etc.. The future of our world obviously isnt good.

Good luck to everyone :D

Eagle

Flash yourself back to when oil was $20 around 9/11 and realize that many of the people here have been tracking the issue through endless CERA drawn lines in the sand. If you suspect the truth of it now keep following the story. When you see that every aspect of the 'theory' of peak oil rings true with what we are watching, and you hold your breath because you fear the sudden stop at the bottom. Then you are there. Stick a fork in him, he's ready.

I think we all probably started with this issue form a place of pessimism about it veracity, then went through a stage of pessimism and even depression about the future, only to move on finally to a place of learning how to handle whatever changes will come. As for the big picture, when the denial ends the real challenge and the real opportunity begins.
I return to you now at the turning of the tide.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('overlever', 'D')ear reader,

My name is Ruben, I'm 34 years old, born, raised and living in The Netherlands. Hobbies include nature walks, solution engineering (together with my industrial designer wife), and wasting company time on assorted internet forums.

How did I find this site? Via PO The Netherlands (peakoil.nl). Why am I interested in PO? Because it will have a dramatic impact, and the current social order is not to my liking and needs changing. :)

NB: the name "overlever" does not have anything to do with levers placed over something. It is the dutch word for survivor.

It's a shame that those days are long behind us. We aren't producing nearly enough wind energy yet. There has been talk (since forever) of a wind farm on an island yet to be built in the North Sea, but I don't see that happening in the next 10 years. :(

If you are still waiting take a look around.
