Tomorrow I begin my 10 day fast...

What's on your mind?

Tomorrow I begin my 10 day fast...

Postby roccman » Sat 15 Mar 2008, 00:10:16

For the past 15 years I have fasted for one week out of the year...lemon water only.

This year I will attempt 10 days.

Things are moving very fast in a very bad direction...

Perhaps this will clear my mind enough to see the next move...

wow, trippy dude. I'm starting the same thing tomorrow.

I've done 10 days a couple times in the past. The Mrs. did 31 days once. I hadn't seen her skin and hair look so good in years.

good luck.

Will you be exposing yourself to the news during your fast?

Think about giving it all up for the 10 days.

There might not be a world to come back to if he did that.

Try giving up sleep for 10 days if you really want to go crazy.

My GF and I have a small farm that needs fencing...this is the project for the week.

I will not be posting much in the next week if at all.

FOMC meeting tuesday...looks like a coordinated central bank rate cut may be in the mix...bonds craterings...dollar tanking...yen unwinding FAST...and fallon gone.

Me and my dog next week building a fence and reconnecting with food and its value.

Misery and starvation...a place humans have spent most all of our time on this blue rock.

No food? I like food, I eat some every day. ..........sometimes I eat too much and then I feel full, sometimes my tummy will hurt for awhile when I eat a lot of food, probably too much food at once. ..........I eat food. That's all I got.

Oh man, I would be starving after a few hours of fence building.

Can you work like that with no food?

I thought you were supposed to just reflect on things, breathe and maybe read a little.

I have done 20 days previously.

Think of it as practice for the long emergency.

Good luck. Ten days sounds about right. Beyond that, I don't know...

Good luck. I did three days once up in the mountains. Didn't think about food at all after the first day. But ten days would be a loooooooong time.

I just came off a seven day fast and feeling great. I did ten days last year no problem. The trick is to go with the lemonade fast. Basically you start your day with 32oz of salt water, then you drink as many lemonade drinks (2TBS lemon juice, 2TBS maple syrup, pinch of cayenne, 10oz water) as you want, usually around 6-8 a day. You can also have some peppermint tea and then you have a night cap of laxative tea.
Overall its a good cleanse for the digestive system and it helps your body in general. Ever notice that when animals are sick they tend not to eat.
On the energy issue, no problem there. I felt the same, if not better, than I normally do. Most likely due to the fact that you are not wasting energy on digestion. I went skiing for a few hours, took plenty of walks, but mostly was in serious organizational mode.
I recomend fasting to everyone.

Excellent Roccman. Always does the body and soul good to fast.
Duing my 'fat' years(about 30 years ago) I fasted for just under 2 months. Drank only water, and took vitamins suggested by my doctor(who was vehemently against fasting). I lost 60 Ibs and felt wonderful. To date (50 yrs old) I've kept the weight off.
Today I fast every day. I eat only one meal a day(due to medical condition, not responding to medications). It is easy to do, weight is maintained, and body, mind, soul wise I feel great.
Good luck, and keep it as part of your monthly routine if you can.
Cheers

roccman, just remember that extended periods of fasting is dangerous to your health. One can develop a fatliver which is pretty hard (or perhaps impossible) to get rid of.

I guess 10 days is ok, but more than that is questionable.

Id instead go on a reduced diet, a normal human being needs around 7500 kJ - 10 000 kJ per day. Id eat perhaps 20 % of that. Its harder (you feel hunger all the time) to go this way but its safer.

I've never tried fasting but I've always wondered about it.

Seems natural that human beings and other animals would be adapted to the occasional period of no food. Certainly can't be as dangerous as being obsese.

Angrysurgeon, I'm curious, what exactly is a fat liver? And why do you feel that extended periods of fasting are dangerous? That seems counter-intuitive. I would agree with Schadenfreude on this one, being obese seems more dangerous, no? It seems to me that humans throughout their steady climb to where we are today, have experienced various forms of fasting, self inflicted and unintentional...
Just curious.

Not you again!

As Michael Corleone put it, "Just when I thought that I was out they pull me back in!"

Aaron should let you use all your accounts to debate with each other, wouldn't that be post-modern?

Good luck with the fast, Rocc. Maybe you'll be changed for the better? Perhaps a lower case "bwahahahhahaah!"

Fasting, Roccman, good on ya! I personally would never try that but then if you've seen any of my personal pics you'd understand. Essentially if I turn sideways I disappear!!!!
