Another Deer In Headlights

Unread postby MD » Fri 14 Mar 2008, 12:33:01

I ruined another day in someone's life today. Ten minutes of conversation and he was left wide-eyed with shock and fright, mumbling about "feeling bad for his grandkids".

I didn't even lay it on heavy. In fact, I spoke positively of encouraging young people to pursue careers in alternative energy and medical technologies.

It didn't help. He knows. They all do. It's amazing to witness the shift these past few months.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

On the one hand:

Way to go, MD! Image

On the other hand:

Knock it off-I don't have enough preps and don't want anymore people out there getting theirs before I get mine....

Even when they seem to accept the idea, they rarely take any action.

If it is to be a slow grinding down of our way of life (which is what I expect) , a little preparation can go a long way. But, people seemingly would rather just hope that someone else solves the problem for them.

"City Eyes Gas From Trash", front page article in our city's newspaper today, about plans for fuel generation from the waste in our landfill, with the aim of perfecting the technology of converting waste to ethanol. With articles like this one grabbing people's attention, added to the price of a barrel of oil and perhaps some rising gasoline prices in the coming months, you'd think the general population should start talking and asking more questions soon. I guess we'll see.

Wow. At least they got it. I haven't gotten that reaction yet. That's the one thing that scares me. The only way NOT to go gently into the night is to recognize the problem and confront it. Thus, it'd be nice if when you explain the problem to someone if their eyes DID go wide as saucers. On the other hand, if Joe Q. Citizen "gets it" all at once later on, there will be chaos in the streets. (Or at least, near the gas pumps and the flour aisle at Costco).

There are entire billion dollar industries based around pumping out cornucopian propaganda, misinformation to induce loyalty and other nefarious activities. These aren't going to stop any time soon so do not expect the hypnotic dance to end until disaster is almost upon us.
