Jane Roberts and The Seth series of books, popular back in the late '70's and early '80's. Read 'em loooonnngggg ago. Chicago, where I live, has the headquarters of the Theosophical Society in the United States, quite lovely grounds, quite peaceful, to visit there.
It's in Wheaton, a suburb of Chicago..
