Aftermath - Population Zero

Unread postby PeakOiler » Sat 08 Mar 2008, 11:35:51

National Geographic will broadcast this show Sunday, March 9. I don't have cable or satellite, so I won't see it, but I would be interested in reading any comments viewers might post afterwards.

I haven't viewed all the trailers at the NG website yet. National Geographic goes "doomer"?
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

If this is the show I think it is it is pretty non-controversial. It does not deal with WHY there are no people but a fanciful scenario where all humans "disappear." Rapture for all?

So they wonder what will happen to pets locked into McMansions but not decaying corpus in the streets.

It has its interest because it does go into how dependent our cities are of continued electric supply to dewater the subways, etc.

It was OK, but not a must see.

Oh, I don't know about that; if it gets even one person to look into Why it could happen...

Is this based on "The World Without Us"? It's the book I'm currently reading. It describes what might happen on a hypothetical (or maybe not-so-hypothetical) Earth on which all people suddenly disappear.

Sort of a "Great Cleansing."

This world definitely has a future without us!

The show on Discover Channel was based on that book, this is a different one on the National Geographic Channel. It might be based on the same book, or it might just be an imitation to make money because the Discovery channel show had good viewership for the advertizers.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
