You don't want to just consider 'the most likely' scenario. You want to consider all likely scenarios. Evaluate each potential action over the result applied to each probabilisticly-weighted scenario and pick the optimal path that reduces the aggregate risk and maximizes the utility of the outcomes, or something like that.

But yours is better than worrying about crap like the thread subject - unless you are doing it for pure entertainment. I mean, anyway - let's say there was a 50% chance there will be no election in 2008 - so what ? I wouldn't do a thing different.

Anything is likely, the deal is to rationally consider the various likelihoods and what we should do in the most likely scenario. Considering there have been many much more dire situations in the past and elections have mostly gone on as first envisioned I kinda think this one will as well. Don't you think?

We are entering the most dire times in human history. Never before has the human race faced a depleting energy source, especially with 6.5 billion people. We are entering uncharted waters. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Instead of powering down and ruin the economy ( it's ruined anyway ), the US has decided to fight for the last remaining oil reserves on the planet.

Come on Dino, I suppose you have read a few of the things I have done in the real world over the last several years.

In both the most unlikely and what I feel the most likely scenario I am in a much better place than I was 5 years ago because I did evaluate the those many scenarios and acted accordingly.

How about you?

Come on Dino, I suppose you have read a few of the things I have done in the real world over the last several years. The best investment is in yourself, pops. Then in your family and then community. That's good risk mitigation for a wide variety of scenarios. I do risk mitigation for a living, trust me. Maybe you agree?
To be honest I don't know what your deal is, but I remember the pictures you posted of your nice family. Everybody's situation is different and I don't like to write essays about myself.

Bush/Cheney could be issuing all the executive orders for the next president... Oliver North and Co. initiated lots of "continuity of government" stuff too, during the 80s, but Bush Sr. never instituted martial law. Still, I agree, it's still possible...

Can you grow a bag of onions? Can you grow enough potatoes to last a year? What can you cook from scratch? How long can you do without electricity or gasoline? Do you have an ample water source? What if you lost your job, tomorrow?

Now that we're sliding down the cliff face, I'm surprised at how angry I am. I thought I'd be smug. I'm just pissed.

won't happen. The election will go through as planned, because regardless of how the election goes, it was all decided at least 10 years ago. We live with illusion of choice.
