CNN

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.

Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

Never met him personally but I admire his game systems and fantasy novels. I will miss him.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I was a big D&D fan at one point. I got pretty sad when I heard about this, and had to spend some time watching GG videos on ytube.

I was a big fan of the game back about 15 years ago and still have a box full of hardback D&D 2nd addition books, especially the forgotten realms series. I have just about everything still including my massive collection of polyhedrals. I look forward to one day sitting around the farm table with a group of family and friends reliving some modules I DM'd back when I was in middle and high school.

For tonight I think I'll dig out an 8 sided die and drink a variable number of beers in his honor. Hope I make my saving throw against hangover. :)

I hope you have a high fortitude, else you'd better drink enough water to build up that negative modifier!

Poor guy. That's what he gets for rolling the dice with his health.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')&D changed my life, made me who I am and overall made me a better person. I might be a nerd, geek, whatever you want to call it, but I like who I am and it's given me the best friends and times I've ever had. I don't know who I would be if it wasn't for gaming, but I don't think I ever want to meet that person.

I agree with this guy.
