A quote that says it all

Unread postby skateari » Mon 14 Feb 2005, 03:10:04

"The truth is useless. You have to understand this right now. You can't deposit the truth in a bank. You can't buy groceries with the truth. You can't pay rent with the truth. The truth is a useless commodity that will hang around your neck like an albatross—all the way to the homeless shelter. And if you think that the million or so people in this country that are really interested in the truth about their government can support people who would tell them the truth, you got another think coming. Because the million or so people in this country that are truly interested in the truth don't have any money."

-Jeb Bush

Read it again. Make sense?

This is a very interesting quote. Where did you find it? It certainly is unusually candid for a politician to say something like this. I would like to know what the context was, what truth is being considered? about what? It seems to imply that the news media isn't telling the 'truth'. It seems to imply that wealthy interests don't support 'truth' for the masses. It seems to imply that the masses don't even want the truth. It recognizes that there is a 'truth' and that a small minority of the population wants access to it, but can't get it because it costs money to get it. Sounds to me like Jeb gave us some 'truth' for free.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MikeB', 'T')he last two sentences make no sense.
The last two sentences make plenty of sense. He's saying that anyone who would bring truth into the public domain needs financial backing. What ambiguity there is in his use of the word 'support' is cleared up in the final sentence where it is made clear that it is financial support that he refers to. Quibble with his style if you like, but his intent is clear.

I looked around a bit, but can't really find and "reputable" sources for this quote, what I did find is this:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Reality? Well, according to George Bush's little brother and Florida governor Jeb Bush, some people just can't handle the truth. Jeb once told retired Naval Intelligence Officer Al Martin (cited in Bushwhacked, Sept. 2002, by Uri Dowbenko)..

link

Since I like sticking quotes like this in face of people who belive in the Party, I would really like to find a "better" source, in this present form I can't use it.

Based on this
"Jeb once told retired Naval Intelligence Officer Al Martin"

Theres not much to say. As skateari posted it its obviously taken WAY out of context. What was the point of the discussion? What was the topic? What context was the qoute made in?
Are we walking about the "truth" being why we pay taxes, or the "truth" being why we're at war or the "truth" being Mr. Al Martins satellite data was 4 hours old.......

If your going to "seek truth" as all of you strive SOOOO hard to do, dont take 1 fucking qoute with no background information and suddenly stand on your soapbox and preach the evils of Jeb.

As much as I may dislike the Bush family (being, you know, a filthy liberal from Europe 8)) there's an undeniable truth to what he's saying, not sure about the albatross comment though.

Speaking in ambiguities--or, shall I say, speaking in tongues--is a helluva lot more serious than just "style." So is quoting out of context.
You could write the book on speaking in ambiguities. The intent of your post is much less clear than Jeb's quote.

I found the quote from typing "the truth is usless Jeb Bush" in google. There were plenty of results. I heard the quote from a friend of mine at our peak oil meetup group and had to check for myself. There were over a dozen of links: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=th ... s+jeb+bush

Yes, I found them too. Unfortunately they all seem to have the same root, and I'm not sure how reliable that root is (no retoric, I just don't know).

Great quote, but I think it is a tad bit too intelligent and too eloquent to have originated from anyone of the Bush clan.

So either he has stolen it from someone else, or he didn't say it at all.

To underestimate your enemy is to fall to his hand.

I think alot of people have repeatedly underestimated the Bush Clan. A mistake, suprisingly enough, which they continue to make over and over!!
As they say, history, bound to repeat itself.

I think the "Bush is an idiot" thing is just a game they are playing. When viewing their business practices and the "tricks" they pull it shows to me that they are not stupid in the least. I think the whole Bush studdering deal and him looking like a dumbass is just another trick they are trying to pull to make Bush appear like a normal, everyday American. Even though no everyday American suffers from such stupidity as he makes it appear to be, it is a cleaver marketing move.

These kids went to Yale. They are billionares. I do not find this quote to far out of their realm of knowledge. Im sure they just would not say anything of the sort to the American public. They approach that whole manner in a much different fashion.
