Enhanced Gas recovery Techology

Unread postby EnergyUnlimited » Wed 27 Feb 2008, 15:08:25

There are claims that yields from gas wells could go up by 40%.

I know, that may be only an investor scam, but maybe someone competent in the area could comment on it.

Inventor claims to have a tested design of electricity driven turbine capable to pump up gas, even if under normal conditions it is no longer possible due to lack of pressure gradient.
It is claimed that pressure difference is 3 times as great, as in the case of jet engine and that designed machinery can be lowered down through the well.

Alternative Energy/Advanced recovery is the new speculative market bubble to replace technology and real estate.

It's kind of fun to watch the fool-money seperation process in action.

I'm no expert, but heres my opinion.

If you put something into a gas well, you increase friction for the gas travelling through the well. It works up to three miles deep. I'm suspecting its effect will not be worth it if you have a deep well.

Gas from a gas field is usually pumped up through a lot of wells. That means that you will also need a lot of these devices. And when I look at the investments. Hmm. Normally gas from a well is produced not at maximum well capacity. You need infrastructure to get the gas from the well to the point of use. That is a major cost factor. Transport of the gas is often more expensive than making the well. Gas is only taken out as fast as the infrastructure can transport it. This device does nothing to take out that bottle neck. In short: nobody is going to buy one during the normal life-time of the well. Then when the lifetime is almost over and most of the gas is taken out, I doubt it will be very economic to spend 1 mln. BP + electricity to boost gas production.

Third point. It sounds like nice technology. Patented. But what exactly is patented? Sounds like you only need a turbine/fan somewhere down a pipe. Having a fan in a pipe is not a unique technology that can be patented. I would not be so sure that if there's money in this, nobody can develop something similar and circumvent the patent.

Finally I don't like the way he writes this. He starts by explaining how there is a lot of money to be made with natural gas. Looks like he is aiming his article specificly to convince idiots into investing into something they don't know anything about. Aparantly he already gave up trying to convince anyone who does know what he's talking about. Doesn't sound good.
