MG, I just read it.

there's nothing there about eating egg yolks.

It's where the fat is found. I don't need any more of that! Ok, I do toss in one yolk per omelete ... but that's it. The rest go down the drain.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')aturated fats play many important roles in the body. They provide integrity to the cell membrane, enhance the body's use of essential fatty acids, enhance the immune system, protect the liver and contribute to strong bones. Saturated fats do not cause heart disease. In fact, saturated fats are the preferred food for the heart. Your body makes saturated fats out of carbohydrates.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')ggs are nature's perfect food, providing excellent protein, the gamut of nutrients and important fatty acids that contribute to the health of the brain and nervous system. Americans had less heart disease when they ate more eggs. Egg substitutes cause rapid death in test animals.

Egg substitutes are mostly egg whites.

Ok, I get it. Without specifically saying so, they're telling us to eat the entire egg. Might be something to that. As a former weightlifter and athlete I was always told to toss the yolks because that's where concentrated fat is.

Maybe I was told wrong. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. I've always stuck to a paradigm that worked well. I'm always ready to move past it.

Tell me more about the good vs evil of eating the entire egg... other than the obvious cost saving... which motivates me more and more these days. heh. :)

The yolk contains most of the nutrients. As you mentioned the fat concern, see the previous link I posted and search around on that site. They have an archive of many articles all about these subjects. It's a great resource.

Oh, but try to get good free-range eggs, that makes all the difference. We get some from a friend whose chickens wander the yard eating bugs and they're so good. Even the "organic" eggs from the store pale in comparison.

Also, I abhor waste!

Can we talk a little dinner too?

I was planning on making some hot wings for me and the old lady. We had a sixer of Sierra Nevada pale ale laying around, and there's nothing that goes better with beer than hot wings.

I got to the store and wings were 3.88 a pound, but breasts were 97 cents! How bizarre. I picked up two flats of breasts and left the wings where they were.

These were breasts with the ribs and skin still on. I pulled off the skin and separated the meat from the bones with fingers when it came off easy, and with a knife when it didn't. I was looking at the pile of ribs and skins and decided to make soup out of it all.

I fired up the grill and threw the ribs and skins on, and let it all cook up for a while. Then out came the cleaver and chopping board, and all that good stuff went into the pot with a gallon of water, a can of tomato paste, four cloves of garlic, and a handful of fresh rosemary and thyme from my windowsill garden.

Oh yeah.

Oh, and we made chicken breast strips on the grill instead of wings. One batch for her was a rosemary and olive oil marinade, and my batch went in a Chinese prepared mustard/soy sauce/Tapatillo mix. We ended up just eating hers, so mine has now been marinading in the bag for three days now. I think a buffalo chicken sammich is in my future tomorrow.

Breakfast: Bread, milk, apple, orange
Lunch: Noodle soup with tofu,d preserved vegetables, beef strips, pork neck or fish balls.
Dinner: Usually have Hainan chicken or yellow chicken with rice or bulgogi, fatty pork or ribs with rice. There's some great eats on this side of the ocean.

Oh, and you're all a bunch of freakin' yuppies. Eggs without the yolk? Gimme a break.

My personal favorites: a bit of brie with whole wheat crackers, apple slices and vanilla yogurt; or, fruit salad and a yummy home-made muffin. Weekend breakfasts with the family are more elaborate, with omelettes on the menu or pancakes with bananas and strawberries. Still, pretty simple.

Apricot homegrown organic sauce on organic toasted bread here and some organic white popcorn. All homemade. The grocery stores could all disappear and we would never know it.
