Philadelphia Enquirer

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')s oil prices hit record highs near $80 a barrel, former CIA Director R. James Woolsey was in Philadelphia yesterday to lend support to Gov. Rendell's goal of producing a billion gallons a year of ethanol and other biofuels in Pennsylvania within the next decade.

Faux News

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Also traveling with McCain has been R. James Woolsey, a former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, who said he has known McCain for 30 years.

"We've got a long, hard fight ahead of us. If a country is in difficulty like that, if it's smart, it does what the British did in May of 1940 and turn to a maverick warrior leader," Woolsey said Thursday, referring to Winston Churchill. "We've got a maverick warrior leader here, and we need him as president."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')CEP never deviates from its mien of objectivity. To the public, the organization seems like an independent commission, perhaps set up by Congress. In fact, it’s a pressure group funded by liberal ideological foundations and partisan policy groups. Make no mistake, NCEP is a skillful activist group that has a singular goal: It aims to overhaul the energy business using the heavy hand of government
.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')ther commission members represent a powerful mix of interest groups: Ralph Cavanagh, director of the energy program at the National Resources Defense Council; Robert E. Grady, managing partner for venture operations of the Carlyle Group, the well-connected private-equity firm; Leo Gerard, president of the United Steelworkers union; former Oklahoma Republican Gov. Frank Keating, now head of the insurers’ lobby; and former CIA Director James Woolsey, who backs more federal spending on fuel-efficiency research.

Human Events

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R'). James Woolsey, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will be the first of four speakers in the annual Sears Lecture Series at Purdue University
.

Link

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')im Woolsey would make a great member of an incoming Republican president's national security team. But what about Woolsey as the VP nominee or as a Senate candidate from Virginia?

Red State

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '(')AP) The U.S. has become dangerously dependent on foreign oil, and developing transport fuel from agricultural products is in its national security interest, former CIA director James Woolsey said.

Woolsey, speaking Wednesday at the Oklahoma Biofuels Conference, said the United States needs to significantly reduce its reliance on foreign oil.

CBS News

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hen someone asks former CIA Director Jim Woolsey where terrorists get their funding, his answer is liable to go something like this: ``The next time you stop to fill up your car with gas, tilt your rear-view mirror a few inches to the left and you'll see.'

EV World

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R'). James Woolsey, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, views electric vehicles as one way to help “destroy oil as a strategic commodity.”

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')n Feb 23, the 2008 National Governors Association will gather for their winter meeting and the primary topic will be making America “a global leader in energy efficiency, clean energy technology, alternative fuels use, and energy research…”

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')ormer CIA Director, R. James Woolsey, will address “the need to develop and support alternatives to imported petroleum.” I don’t know who Woolsey is shilling for, but I have personally heard his standard speech on this topic and I can tell you he is full of hot air.

I've debated a bit with Alan Caruba online and he is, to use one of those wonderful litte American expressions, a corporate shill.

Woolsey might be an asshole, but at least he is our asshole.
Peak oil is not an energy crisis. It is a liquid fuel crisis.

I wondered if anyone was going to read the rest of that blog post. Yes, I believe he is, as Campbell would say, a flat-earther.

Revival of the neo-con mantra! Will the sheep be stupid enough to be deceived by the wolves’ shabby and now meager coverings. Can this worn out excuse be used once again? Perhaps even 400,000 dead, $trillions spent, and the chances of living with an unending war will not be enough to dissuade the proletariat from mimicking the talking heads who belong to the dogs of war.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('backstop', 'P')up,

this link : http://lugar.senate.gov/new_petroleum.html

is to a paper by Lugar + Woolsey in 99 in CFR (which I can't get to open from your link above)

in which (beside PO projections) their concern for IIIW food supply, versus US ethanol supply, is clarified.

Multiple references to Genetically Mutilated Organisms being developed for the latter, noticeable with reference to wood.
Charming reference to IIIW labour costs.

Threadbear's fine question thus maybe needs refining a little :

Woolsey is a Neocons' Neocon, so which part of "bloodthirsty terracidal profiteering corporate imperialist" don't people understand ?

regards,

Backstop

Lugar New Petroleum Foreign Affair article

I reposted a working link to the article. I had never since that piece before. I had no idea that Senator Lugar (R-Indiana) was peak-oil aware. He has a family farm which I believe is huge and is now feedstock for ethanol plants that he mandated in Congress (please factcheck that). Wow, that was an eye-opener. I cannot believe I missed that article before now. Thanks, pup55.

Drumming up fear that Russia will cut us off of oil.

Probably will help whatever investments or projects he has in electric vehicles.

Woolsey said Obama doesnt understand we are in a war on terrorism ???. Lets see ... GWB said we should go shopping and I forget whether its important to get Osama this month or whether George thinks hes become irrelevant. The Neocons invaded Iraq which had nothing to do with the Sunni extremism but it sure looked like a war on some Arabs and most Yahoos didnt know the difference between Sunni and Shia so what the hell. I guess that counted as understanding the situation. Anyway that war would cost only 3 maybe 4 billion tops said Cheney so it was an obvious winner .These guys are the real experts and obviously must remain in control [?] of the situation. Hell Obama might consider the facts before acting and that kind of s--t could really hurt real Muricans.
