I appreciate yin and yang and the Way because it gave me a good alternative to the faith I was raised in when I became disillusioned.

I also appreciate the martial arts outfits that have used to the yin and yang in interesting and "kick ass" ways.

Asian women are hot.

(And I'm a whitey)

I'll second that.

This is the designated Extinct Hominids appreciation thread

Unread postby seldom_seen » Thu 21 Feb 2008, 03:02:30

I guess maybe anything goes on this site now? It's so easy to talk about living hominids (homo sapiens) and their idiosyncratic cultures and genetic phenotypes.

Who speaks for the extinct hominids? From australopithecenes to homo erectus. We have no neanderthal day, or homo erectus appreciation month. No parades for flores man, or ceremonies for australopithecenes robustus. We can't quote speeches by homo heidelbergensis, or sing the battle hymms of cro-magnon man.

Who speaks for the extinct hominids? Think about it.

Terve vuan, olen Kuopiosta kotoisin.

Yup, I was too hasty with my Sami comment, havent really read much of their roots. I based that on some haplo-group comparison where samis composition didint differ very much from finns, hmm, cant find the link now, but if you're interested, theres a loong thread of the subject here in finnish.

What was interesting in the comments of "stuff white people like"- blog, is that its perspective made several people to realise "I have a culture!" without guilt :) I havent ever lived within non-western culture, if the peakoil wouldnt be upon us, I would like to live a few years in Asia to be able to see our own habits more clearly. And of course to gather empirical data regarding the hypothesis that asian women are as beutiful on the inside as they are on the outside. *g*

Hahaha. Don't fall for that one.
My wife is ex-Singaporean chinese (met her in Australia and she was the reason I stayed) and she is terrific, but I have several friends who got badly burnt on gold diggers and citizenship hunters. Problem is of course that men become complete idiots when around pretty ladies, so most of them (us) are easy targets and don't even realize it.

Gene studies confirm ‘out of Africa’ theories
Findings: Africans also have most diverse DNA, fewest genetic mutations By Maggie Fox
WASHINGTON - Two big genetic studies confirm theories that modern humans evolved in Africa and then migrated through Europe and Asia to reach the Pacific and Americas.
The two studies also show that Africans have the most diverse DNA, and the fewest potentially harmful genetic mutations.
One of the studies shows European-Americans have more small mutations, while the others show Native Americans, Polynesians and others who populated Australia and Oceania have more big genetic changes. …

I suspect that if there was a cataclysmic event during a US football game, or an Aussy rules football game, in 10000 years, when the site is uncovered, there will be speculation about how those neanderthals were subjugated and forced to "entertain" their conquerers.

Micki, I know not one word of Finn. It was english only in the house, which was quite common. My late older brother spoke it a bit but he's the only kid who made mom teach him.

It ain't over til it's over. Give it a go, just make sure you have your exit strategy if things really fall apart quickly.

In late 05 I started thinking that economical downturn would hit before major impact of PO and that US would go down. My thinking was that this would lead to a drop in demand allowing supply to easily meet globally lower demand.
Consumption would however move from USA to EU and Asia, thus allowing them to continue the consumer party a bit longer.
I've yet to see if it all works out but the thinking is quite in line with Peter Schiffs theories as well.
If this works out, Asia might be the place to be for another few years.

I appreciate the Neanderthals for their large brains and sturdy physiques. Too bad they weren't clever enough for the pesky Cro-magnons.

I appreciate the Cro-magnons because they showed that just because you're smaller, that doesn't mean you can't kick ass in the evolutionary derby.

I wonder if there is any way to keep all of the appreciation threads together, so that one group doesn't feel less appreciated than the others?

This is the Asian appreciation thread

Unread postby furrydog » Thu 21 Feb 2008, 16:34:12

Okay, this thread is for the appreciation of Asians. Most of their artwork is incredible. When I see a gallery of Asian art, there is a sense of peace and tranquility. There are more people turning to Buddhism or Taoism. Chinese food is one of the top five popular dishes in America and other places in the Western world. (I assume Indian food is popular in Britain.) Of course shushi is becoming popular as well. Asian women are pretty.

Where's the love for Asians, people?
