USD15K just to propose

Unread postby Choon » Fri 15 Feb 2008, 04:49:18

Every year around this time, there's always someone willing to propose, even if it gets them into debt forever.

This guy just spent 40K Ringgit on a billboard 10K Ringgit on the ring. That's about 15 grand for you Americanos.

What the heck was going on in this guy's mind? Maybe the money spent on the ring is forgivable, but he could buy a decent mid-range car which would last way longer than the billboard and would at least serve *SOME* practical purpose during their lives together.

I guess reality only sets in after the honeymoon is over.

He might have worked the numbers and figured it's less expensive than hiring whores 2-3 times a week over the next 20 years, then maybe 1X a week when he's older.

And if he has daughters by this wife he buys, he can fuck them too, it's Asia after all.

I blame Hollywood, and the wedding industry, both of which promote the whole "royalty fairy-tale happily ever after" thing. I've met many people, usually young, who buy into it -- and think that having the fairy-tale (expensive) wedding followed by the fairy-tale (expensive) honeymoon implies "happily ever after". Many of them probably shouldn't even be dating, let alone getting married. Some of them have struck me as being financially akin to two drowning people who can't swim trying to stay afloat on each others' backs.

I've nothing against people spending money on something they 1) can afford and 2) enjoy. It's just that some seem quite far away from #1, and also unrealistic about #2. "Happily ever after" shouldn't start with whopping debt. :?

I just blame human stupidity. That pretty much explains every idiotic act on Earth. :o

And our whores aren't that cheap. Not the ones worth fucking, at any rate.
