As noted previously, Oregon is also being overrun. Unfortunately mainly with urbanites from California who are working hard at turning it into the same old same old. The good news is that the sucky real estate market in California has slowed down their migration, and the sucky weather here has lots of them fleeing back south. It looks like the real estate crash came just in time and we may escape the worst of it. Of course the funny thing is that the parts of Oregon that are the best long term are the parts the newcomers tend to avoid like the plague, they all want to move to Oregon but not be far from a Starbucks.
I'm sure there's folks that escape to a place they like, but I don't know of many instances. Had a buddy here in town, he hit 55 years old, divorced the wife, sold his business, sold his home and property so he could move to the Phillipines and retire to a beach house. He got on the plane the middle of January, was back by the end of January. Haven't heard the story yet, he's keeping a low profile and living with his wife again, after all of that he sure must have found something he REALLY didn't like to make him slink back home again.
