I think the Internet has become WORSE over the last 10 years, myself. It takes high speed access to do what used to be easy on dial-up. Email is more and more shaky, and often does not work from state to state. I can communicate with xxxxx, for instance, but only through using postal mail. It's becoming an actually worse system for communication than postal mail, and it's more expensive. Thus, any business plan that counts on the Internet being around in another 10 years is probably a very foolish one.

Plants - what you need, that is if you use Firefox (and are using dial-up) is Image-Show-Hide, an extension which can keep images from loading, speeding things up enormously. Been a while but I think this is the extension I used in my dial-up days, which are thankfully over.

smallpoxgirl - dotmed sounds like half.com, where the sellers vie for your business as well. Was baffled by half at first - seemed like eBay lite.

Funny choice of user name here - I assume that's not the handle you use to sell with!

Half.com is part of Ebay, evil, evil, stay away!

Overstock.com is Ebay's nemesis, which tells me they're pretty good. Heard lots of good stories about them.

Ebay and the rest are a bunch of goddamned fools if they think their radio etc commercials make any difference, what makes or kills a site is word of mouth.

There are a LOT of auction sites coming up, the biggest success story is Auction Arms and Auction Arms is a big success story because SOMEONE told them that the Ebay auction "engine" software is available to anyone.

They told them that because it is true.

I don't know where to get it, I'd be prepared to do some searching, sleuthing, maybe find someone high-up in Auction Arms and treat 'em to a really NICE time with plenty of hookers'n'blow, but the point is, the software Ebay started out with is available - be the first kid on your block to get it!

Actually, smallpoxgirl started as an ebay handle. I haven't ever sold anything on Ebay, though I have a couple of things I want to sell in the next couple of months.

smallpoxgirl -- I'd advise you put your things:

(a) on Craig's List
(b) on special-interest sites. Hell if you were selling PO-oriented stuff you could sell it here. I'm surprised there isn't a "trader's corner" on here.
(c) through labx, figure out how to use it....
(d) On that site you use now, or.....
(e) word-of-mouth takes patience but works VERY well.

The main thing I need to sell is a Telgaurd TG-4 link. It's kinda Peak Oil related. Wanna buy it? :-D

Da Sandman's a cool dude. Cool site. It's been years since I visited it, but this kind of site exists for any kind of interest or enterprise, so don't go thinking Evilbay's the only game in town.

www.microwaves101.com for uWave stuff fr'instance.

This is the beauty of the internet, that there are all these little special-interest groups who can get together.

I'm still surprised there isn't a sort of Trader's Corner on here though.

I just found this: 8O

http://www.sandman.com/taseler.html

It's a mini taser that is apartently intended for zapping your kids when they misbehave!

There's Mr Bill's Sticky thread of that name but not the kind of trading you're talking about of course.

What could we call it? Aaron's List? pEakbay? Hubbertzon.com?

I guess person to person buying and selling would not be tolerated here then. I guess if you have a real product, Matt Savinar's site will let you buy a banner etc and his site's one of the Big Three. (this one, theoildrum, and matt's site.)

Good thing seller can't leave negative feedback for buyers now. My friends had too many problems with bad auctions, and getting retaliatory feedbacks. Now one can leave negatives over bad auctions without fear over ruining ones feedback score.

Now the sellers will just leave though.

Not all of them, but a good number of them - the feedback change isn't the only change, they're also raising fees by something like 50% for items under $25, which are the bread and butter of most sellers.

Ebay's really a very nasty place, it's a thieves' market and I'm glad to be done with it.

I dont understand whats a big deal ( for buyers) this feedback update is supposed to be. When I buy I use accounts with score of 5-10 or less and cant care less about retaliation.

That's the best way to deal on there. Also, people who use PayPal "launder" the money through a few accounts, and don't keep any more than necessary in their PayPal account.

It's a real underworld.

Found Book on Ebay

Unread postby SpringCreekFarm » Fri 04 Apr 2008, 19:34:39

I was searching eBay for farm books and came across this gem called Eating Oil by Maurice Green.

I'm not selling it and I'm not interested in bidding on it (obviously) but I did feel it was necessary to tell you about it. I'll bet someone here will want it. Cheers.
