When would have the USA oil production peaked IF....

I was just wondering if anyone would have a rough estimate of when the oil production would have peaked in the U.S. if back in lets say 1965 to 1970 they had todays oil technology.

The Texas railroad commission before 1968 had all the oil majors on a quota system so technology would not have had any impact. Modern Oil technology applied to the US oil fields of 1970 just at the peak might have delayed the peak for 2 to 4 years but at the cost of much steeper declines later on.

Regarding this, using today's technologies we would have drained the fields sooner.

Pemex has been using nitrogen injection for years to improve oil and gas production, or at least slow the decline rates at mature fields. Last September it began injecting nitrogen into the offshore Ku field, and has been injecting nitrogen into the giant Cantarell field for a decade.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ej', 'C')antarell has one of the worlds largest nitrogen injection programs. They've kept reservoir pressure up that way, along with water. As noted often, these programs do not add to additional production, they simply advance the curve so the decline rates at the end are much steeper. Look at what's happened to Oman!

But I'll give you some "Sympathy for the Devil". Because there are some new technologies that may let us burn more then we ever expected. And do more damage to the environment then even we thought possible...

UCG could increase the coal resource available for utilization enormously. A 300-400% increase in coal reserves and even greater increase of gasification is possible.
