Apparently Bloomberg and Reuters cannot agree on what they are...

Looks like you've discovered Tickerforums which I just have. I'll never register and post there since the great casino known as the stock market is not a place I feel qualified to play. But I sure like reading what the folks there have to say.

Is this something to do with the bond insurers?

Maybe it has to do with panic? Maybe it has to do with a flood of money into the US as a result of the Bushies' whoring about for it? Money coming in would seek the treasuries if it can't be sure about a bottom in the markets or if they haven't set up profitable arrangements with established businesses. If outsiders are waiting for the moment to seize upon opportunity and that moment is close but not here yet, then they will want to be in dollars. Interesting how this all comes on the heels of Davos.
When it comes down to it, the people will always shout, "Free Barabbas." They love Barabbas. He's one of them. He has the same dreams. He does what they wish they could do. That other guy is more removed, more inscrutable. He makes them think. "Crucify him."
