Wealth and ambition

Unread postby vampyregirl » Thu 24 Jan 2008, 00:51:35

I have no plans of ever being fabously wealthy but i would like to have a good life and give my son a good life. And if i ever have more kids give them good lives as well. I see myself living comfortably with everything i could reasonably want.
Should i aim higher? What are other people heres goals?

The fabulously wealthy have no intentions of giving you the good life, they want the money that you have also.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vampyregirl', 'W')hat are other people heres goals?

To be as powerful & secure as possible. I don't plan to be huddled in a basement room eating rancid rice by candlelight while gunfire sounds above my head that's for sure.

As to how high you should aim. I believe you should aim as high as your realistic imagination allows you too.

Life belongs to those who dream big. Them & roaches, parasites & scavengers. But that's no way to live.

My goal is to earn as much money as possible over the coming years while living as simply as possible, and putting myself in a position to ensure that I can simply live once things start to go to shit.

You should forget about 'providing a good life' for any of your children or anyone you know, if by that you mean the materialistic, fossil fuel rich lifestyle now synonymous with that term.

Enough food to keep hunger pains at bay, enough activity to keep the blood flowing, stories to read, music to listen to, friendly people to chat with and a warm, comfortable and safe place to sleep.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

Goals of wealth: own my house free and clear

Goals of ambition: none, as I have achieved my ambitions

My ambition is to spend as little time as possible working. I could move somewhere "cooler" than Kansas. I could eat out and eat something fancier than rice and lentils. I could drive more miles than I do. I could wear something that wasn't from Goodwill. I could throw my clothes in a dryer rather than spend time hanging them on a line. But, that half-hour at the clothesline is *mine*, and it's mine in the sun, in nature. That dollar to run the dryer a few times is "the man's". Gardening is no profit either, but is at least my time is mine.

What I was given was 684,000 hours in my life (if I'm lucky). I'm not going to spend those going to meetings if I can avoid it. Too much swimming and multi-day bike touring I could be doing instead.

Moreover, the less I make and the less I spend, the less the government taxes me to do things I disapprove of. That is the philosophy of the Amish around here who technically make very little money (partially because they barter). I still pay some taxes, but not much.

Beyond that, my ambition is to help people when I can. Milk a neighbor's cow, fix a bike and pass it along, host a web page for the square dance association, do a little open-source programming, volunteer for emergency preparedness.

I am fed, warm, and have friends. I am freer than most people in history. I want for nothing more. The internet is a nice additional diversion.
