If you think it is about to get tough…

Do you talk about what you are thinking with your spouse?

I do talk to my wife about this. 12 months ago when I was still developing my response plan she would get really angry. She pointed out it was all really scary and she didn't want to know. We agreed I could spend money on prep stuff in light of a hobby. I styled our living in a way that subtly changed towards a self sufficeincy like profile. It turns out we both want to do this even without the impending crisis. The idea of storage of supplies really freaked her out. As such that part of the plan has been delayed.

Her favourite counter argument was all this data about oil peaking may be fabricated to stir people up. Get people to pay more for oil to make even more money.

Over time she came to understand what I was telling her and she could see the signatures her self. Slowly she came up to speed on what will be necessary. She is about 90% there now.

I must say it is a great relief to be on the same page with your partner on something so influential on our lives.
For every question , there is a lie. For every lie, there is a truth. For every truth, there is a way. And for every way, there is a time. This is the time.

I have tried to explain it to my soon to be ex but she does not get the gravity of it. She didn't understand what happend yesterday in the stock market or the rate cut, but she knew Heath Ledger died.

On the flip side I openly discuss Peak Oil, the collapse and power down with my father. We have weekly discussions about transitioning to ranch life. For that I am thankfull.

Yes, we talk about PO and its consequences often. She is more soberly doomish and matter of fact about that doom than me.

Sometimes what she says scares me, even though I agree with her logic. 8O

Since she grew up in a third world country, she needed no convincing. She has always been frugal to a fault...I'm the one wasteful. They only thing she says about PO is that no-one will believe it until it happens, Americans are too greedy and ignorant.
She also told me not to talk about it at work, as I will lose my job.

I can’t remember how many posts over the years mentioned The Other doesn't get it when the poster wanted to spend a buck on some Prep thing.

Interestingly different response tonight though.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'S')he is more ... matter of fact ...

Good place to be, huh?

Yes, but she just thinks its more doomer talk from the same hole. The years worth of FD food freaked her out when it showed up. Something better happen soon or my credibility is going to suffer, just joking,, I still feel good about what I've done, As soon as the tax return comes I'm doing a little more. I'm not going to tell her what I'm doing this time. I'll just give her a little cash and she'll forget everything else that going on

thank god I can come here and talk,, you guys are really the ones who don't think I'm nutty

Not very much..... My husband doesn't dismiss it out of hand, but he's not on board with it yet...
Although he did dig out the 401k info last night and told me to go through it and give my opinion on it...
He is more of a thinker than a responder.. After almost 32 years of marriage, I know which buttons to push to get what I want (and, because of that, I have to always be careful to push the buttons for the right reasons), but, PO is a whole new set of buttons..
I prep without telling him about everything.. I get teased a lot--"When do you want me to start building the bunker?" or, for about a week after I first mentioned getting guns for the three of us and taking shooting lessons, everytime someone came into the house they'd say, "Don't shoot, it's me!"
.....sigh.....
I just keep on keeping on-I'm going to do whatever I can to save them in spite of themselves......
edited to add: Husband knows almost all of my buttons, too! :-)

My wife is completely on board but is critical about some of my preps. I can understand her point, she just wants me to be more balanced in my preps.

I want lots of gardens, some livestock, some stored food, lots of guns and a bunker.

She wants gardens, some livestock, lots of stored food, a few guns and more space in the house.

In the end working on either hers or my plan puts us further ahead so we work on the common parts of the plan and now and again we each get our own way. The only real sticking point is the bunker. I'm thinking that I should start construction on a really really strongly build and well buried root cellar for her. All root cellars come with back up power and solid steel doors right?
shame on us, doomed from the start
