How much do you eat in a week?

I had this sent to me by a friend, kind of puts things into perspective how differently people live.

Makes me grateful.

O_o

I spend 400 zlotys (160$) on food each month, and I still think I consume way too much.

Well 1 dollar costs 2,5 zlotys. So 582 is more than 200 $ :)

The way I see it the family in the Breidjing Camp is taking a $1.23 from some Amerikan that could grab an extra meal at McDonalds. They need to cut back or the B52s will be on the way.

I try to stick to $45/week. It fits in two shopping bags (all the Sparrow will hold). So: $180/month. Jes l'il ol' me.

That American Family eats almost no fresh fruits or veggies. Amazing.

That might be a good exercise, calculating what your household eats in a week, to see how many weeks your preparations are really good for.

There is already a thread about this. Someone find it.

This is actually a book. I work at a bookstore and we have it. I need to flip through it. I'd buy it, but it's like $50, which, by the way, is about half of what I spend in a week. I really need to cut back. I've already cut meat almost entirely out of my budget, but I'm spending more on fruits (they cost so much).

I think that the book is "Hungry PLanet", one of the authors is Menzel. Another good book is "Material World", same author, I think. "Material World" is about the possessions that people have in different countries and cultures.

In looking at our budget records for last year, I see that we spent about $91 a week for groceries and garden and orchard expenses, in other words for total food budget. That is for a household of 3 or more adults, depending on how many sons or other folks may be visiting, and including lots of potlucks and get-togethers for pizza, etc., after an afternoon of some other activity with neighbors and friends. So I would say that it is more like we are feeding 4 people with $91 a week. Looks like about $1000 less in 2007 than in 2006, too. So I guess we are getting better at food production.

Note the 20L of coke behind the Mexico family, also the 14L of sugary drink of some type with the Italians. Even Egypt: 3 big bottles.

The Germans appear to be slugging down a lot of beer, which is correct.

Frequent visits to the fast food place by the US family.
