Hilarious, synchronistic names

Unread postby threadbear » Fri 11 Jan 2008, 16:23:14

I was listening to the avalanche report on the radio today and learned the fellow in charge of the avlanche reporting center is called...ready for it?....Cliff Crumbleby or Rumbleby. Didn't quite catch it.

That deserves a thread. I was also ruminating a couple of days ago, on the name of the reporter who did coverage for the CBC on Mad Cow disease--James Cudmore. While I was thinking of this, no lie, I was looking at Youtube--story about otters at the aquarium, reported for a local news agency, by a fellow by the name of Waterman.

In biochemistry, the Lineweaver-Burk plot (or double reciprocal plot) is a graphical representation of the Lineweaver-Burk equation of enzyme kinetics, described by Hans Lineweaver and Dean Burk in 1934[1].

I met a veterinarian medical researcher called Dr Fungus. He was researching sexually transmitted diseases in koalas!

Ironically he had no sense of humour what so ever.

When I did my driving test 12 years ago, my driving tester's name was:

George Manifold. It took me a while to realise that he wasn't taking the piss.

My personal favorite?

J.W. Splatt and D. Weedon, urologists who published several papers on incontinence together. It was discussion of Splatt and Weedon that led New Scientist to coin the term in the first place.

It's funny, but the word crap, and synonym for shit did not come into being until Mr. Crapper invented his device.

Jeez, what a way to be immortalized.
