Just a question.

Unread postby Pretorian » Tue 01 Jan 2008, 05:07:12

So, say you have a person or a group of people nearby, who would grant you an absolute and uncondtitional support in whatever situation you might need help with, would you be willing to grant same kind of support to this person or a group of people?

To blindly pledge unwavering support to anyone is to condemn yourself to a life of servitude for that person's goal's, irrespective of your own.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days

One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

That will be true if that "anyone" does not pledge an unwavering support to you in return. I am talking about group of people agreeing on some sort of a Code, which would define both borderline morals and common goals everyone is agreeing with. It doesnt mean that you cant have your personal goals, it means you will have everyone's support for them, unless they are damaging common or someone else's goals.
To put it simply , say you are a manager who has an oportunity to promote someone. Would you promote an employee who is supposedly friendly to you, an employee who worked hard and deserved promotion but not particularly friendly, or a guy you barely know but sworn into your group? Some one who will never undermine you, rat you out, testify against you, ets, no matter what?

I,m not sure exactly what the question is? But the example I'm thinking of is, who do I share my food with? I have close family near with kids, And they are able to afford supplies but in a shortage or disruption, there might not be much to buy. So I guess my answer would be to give to kids first, but after that I'm not sure. I kinda prepared for myself, not everyone else. For one, nobody knows I have a stash so they wouldn't expect me to have anything in the first place unless I told them.

Its amazing to think that today I would look like a nut for buying so much emergency food. But I would look like a genius tommorow if it was needed.

Aha you guys are channeling whoever it was who founded something called "More house" or "More".

"More" involved a group of people living and working together, and each in turn would get all the others' effort put toward achieving THEIR goal. Then they'd take part in helping out with the others' goals.

Or maybe one whose goal was achieved was then free to go, and they'd just get someone else to start out in the queue.

We knew, sort of, some people doing this. I remember one guy wanted to become a TV repairman. It was a little weird, but what can I say, I was just a kid, and decided maybe some adults are a little weird but still basically OK.

Then there was a bit of a flap, the More parents were having their kids have sexual intercourse with each other, so little girls were losing their virginity at ages like 9 and 10, and little boys were happy but awfully confused. And word went around to just avoid these people because bad stuff was going on.

Looking back, they were probably bringing in some cash by filming the kids doing it.

Now.... where was this discussion going? ...

Oh yeah, hippies are bad.

sittinguy - Dang it, I did'nt say I was in the "More house" as a kid, these were some weird people over offa homestead road, sheesh.

I think you can look that movement up, I think it's probably the closest real-life implementation of what Pret's talking about. In some cases maybe it worked pretty well.

Now .... Uh..... what were we talking about.... oh yeah...

OK I tried looking it up, but it's that stupid name, "More". I found it recently when I was digging up the evil roots of something called Landmark, but I can't seem to find it now.

More.... the idea was by working together, the sucke, er, participants, would achieve More than they'd be able to on their own.

And I was saying. .... um.... er.... (it's always fun to end these with a cheech and chong'ism) uhh...... the 70s sucked.

Absolutely , I am currently and have been networking since coming to GA. for this reason , with the situation the world and particularly the U.S. are facing I'm looking to form close neighborly associations with as many of my neighbors as possible. Strength in numbers. If my next-door neighbor had a problem I'd be there lickety-split packing all my heat , cause I know if I got a problem he's there ,no questions asked.
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave
