Old Pastimes Die Hard

Unread postby SpringCreekFarm » Wed 02 Jan 2008, 10:34:56

Well I guess you should never say never....

Here I am yesterday, New Years Day, playing to a crowd of people that just didn't want to sober up from New Years Eve.

I've not been on stage for about 3 years so the expression on my face is because my fingers were ready to bleed.

It was fun but it was a one time thing with my old band who had a band member throw a hissy fit a few days before this show. I made sure I told them I didn't want my old job back.

.....now back to preparing for the end of the world...

Hi, SpringCreekFarm! Happy New Year!

It looks like fun; I wish I could join in. Did you have any jitters?

By the way, what song were you singing?

Hi Wildrose. Happy New Year to you too!

I hardly ever get the jitters. I think the song I was singing was "Going to California" by Led Zeppelin.

Great song, one of my favorite bands. I have all their albums, on vinyl. Can you sing in Plant's high range?

I always get the jitters. I try to make sure my knees are covered when I perform so no one can see them knocking.

Yea I can sing the stuff. Just wish I had more of Plant's vocal quality. He was the best rocker in my opinion. I too, have all their albums. Some of it I cannot listen to anymore because I've listened to it too much other stuff I can't get enough of.

Hey have you seen Jello Biafra lately? He's got this gut now, and he talks like Barney The Dinosaur.

Zep is by far my favorite band of all time. You are obviously one of the true old-time troubadors , and I mean that in the 16th century , italian entrepreneurial sense of the word.
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

It's really sad when someone like Jello Biafra becomes just another fat guy. He used to be somebody whose name you could use to determine whether somebody was cool or not. You could just mention Jello Biafra and watch their facial expression for a reaction.

I'd never heard of that Jello guy until plants brought him up. I'm glad I can inspire thought about some old fat guy with my picture.

Truthfully, it reminded me that I have to cut back on the groceries a little. I found it a lot harder to play up there with a guitar strapped to my fat ass belting those tunes out. Singing and playing requires a little athletic ability if you want to play the zep tunes and the like.

Hey boogie thanks for the reply. I have no idea what the hell you mean by that but I'll take it the best possible way!

Oh and speaking of Zep....anyone think they'll hit North America with a tour? I'm thinking they will and that the London show was just a 'pilot project'. Cheers.

Jello was the lead singer of the Dead Kennedys. They had a song called "Shrink" in which the first line is: "If only people could shrink, the world wouldn't be so overcrowded." He'd fit right in at PeakOil.com. Maybe he's here already?

Every self-respecting punk knows who Jello is, but I've never been into that whole mentality of dividing people into cliques like highschoolers. A bit of the Clash, a bit of Clearance Clearwater Revival, a bit of Johnny Cash and round it all out with some Bach, that's a good night of music for me.

It's cool that you've got your own band. Keep on rockin' in the Peak world! When the juice runs out, just get a banjo and mandolin player and keep going. Check out the Pogues if you want to hear some wild old folk songs on wild old folk instruments.

I was never into the puck scene so that is why I never heard of Jello, even though I have actually heard of the Dead Kennedys.

I like a whole lot of music as well but basically cut my teeth on more 60's and 70's hippie music. Today I listen to mostly classical, jazz and other more obscure shit like ambient.

I used to be in a band that did the Pogues "Dirty Old Town" song. They are a great band. That reminds me that I should get some of that stuff......take care.
