IMO, it is the culture that is the problem not some inborn desire for self-destruction (AFAIK, the religions that paint man as some fallen creature only started appearing around the start of agriculture, large cities, hierarchies, etc.).
You put two monkies in a tree together, they'll play, forage, probably get along fine. Stcik three-hundred monkies in the tree and yeah, you'll get problems. Personally, I'm amazed every day that people function as well as they do, no doubt the energy slaves help.
On topic, I think the slogan is quite repulsive and whoever coined it should lose his job and be shunned for any position of authority for life (or maybe put in a jail for a few months for some first-hand research in PTSD
