I could NEVER date a guy under 5'10. Stumpy little fingers, short necks, shorter little bodies, bad smell. Beady eyes, drag their knuckles, belch a lot, due to shortened digestive tract. Can be used as flotation devices, if lightweight. If not, make good door stops.

Well, ACTUALLY, it's POSSIBLE that's not the kind of "short" that threadbear was referencing.

But, seriously, what do your dating/body type preferences, etc, posts have to do with the psychological impacts of peak oil, Hubbert?

Your posts remind me of the old yahoo boards -- which were cool exchanges of thoughts in the beginning, but eventually devolved to the point where even yahoo saw that they were basically pointless, name calling, ugly crap ... usually having nothing to do with the topic at hand. So yahoo disbanded them.

In any case, I will do what seems like the only reasonable thing to do, and block my view of any of your future posts -- since you don't seem to be here to discuss anything remotely related to peak oil.

On a positive note (+), I would like to mention that my wife and I actually talk about 'things' more than we used to. We don't always agree, but at least the disconnect from the previous reality has forced the discussion about what happens next.

I think in that context, the approaching hard-times, will force most of us to begin living the 'real' life. Whatever that may be, I'm pretty sure that it will not resemble what people do today. For some, it will be re-invigorating; for most others, it will suck big time.
We have been brought into the present condition in which we are unable neither to tolerate the evils from which we suffer, nor the remedies we need to cure them. - Livy

When your spouse isn't aligned with you???

Unread postby hope_full » Tue 27 May 2008, 10:47:50

I'm married to a wonderful man who makes a good wage ($100,000+) and I have a small part time job. We live below our means and have no debt (other than home mortgage) and save as much money as possible. Our home will be paid off in about four years (or less). I love my husband and he's a good man, but he can't bear to hear about "peak oil" because he says, "it's so depressing."

Here's my question:

We are in a good area that is less than five blocks from a BAD neighborhood and we live in an early 1900s home. We're near hubby's work (less than four miles) and within walking distance of stores, shops, medical care, etc. This community was built in the early 1900s and was specifically designed for walkers.

Because of my husband's job, we're not able to move too far from here and he'd never think about selling our home. It's a beautiful home and it suits our needs and like most old houses, it's thoughtfully designed to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

I've read different reports and some say you're better off in a community than out in the wilderness. I'd love to hear others' opinions and I'd also like to hear from people who are married to someone who isn't aligned with them on this peak oil thing.
