$250 to watch a baseball game?

Unread postby Prince » Tue 18 Dec 2007, 15:51:01

Apparently with the Yankees' new stadium on the way, ticket prices are again on the rise.

A single box-seat ticket will cost you $250. Of course, this must be for a World Series or All-Star game, right? One could only hope. This is the cost for a regular season game. And the $250 price tag is only for those who buy season ticket packages. Otherwise, that ticket has a face price of $325-400. Ouch! I stopped going to Seattle Mariners games a long time ago because I thought $30-something was steep. I realize supply-and-demand and all that jazz, but who the hell has the spare funds for this? According to the article, these prem-o seats are already sold-out. I guess Alex Rodriguez comes at price for all those fans. Jesus!

I might spend $100+ a ticket for a concert to my favorite band that came by once every 5 years, but not for a damn ballgame.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Yankees increased most of their ticket prices. The most expensive box seats closest to the field went from $150 in 2007 to $250 next year as part of full season-ticket plans. Those are all sold out.

In the unlikely event any of those seats are available for individual games, they would cost $325 in advance and $400 on game days.

Yankees raise ticket prices in 2008.

I can't stand baseball. It is one dull sport.

I know some people love it but I can't understand why. That and pro basketball another terrible "sport" the few times that I have watched it, it seemed like the players were just half assly going through the motions. It strikes me that most of them just don't care. I like college Bball though and football then comes the NFL.

Rant over.

250 dollars a ticket? that is criminal. The Yankees symbolize everything that is wrong with the sport, they have all the money and get the best players, yeah that is fun to watch.

I agree baseball and basketball are boring as hell. I'd rather watch grass grow.

I like baseball, but major league ticket prices are out of control. Even for my town's team, the Devil Rays, the worst team in the league, a night at the ball game for two will set you back about $100. And that's for the cheap seats in the outfield. I now go to the Clearwater Threshers minor league game a few miles away. $8 a seat, lower box right behind home plate. And it's a great field; only nicer minor league field I've been to was in Durham, NC.

They need the money so they can pay the players their exorbitant salaries. The players take this money and buy human growth hormone with it.

They have to come up with the moola to pay those multi-million dollar salaries to the players.... I heard last week that one just got a contract worth $275 million for a ten year contract.
That's obscene!

I think I spent something like $30 to see Man Or Astro-Man? in concert. It was pretty excellent, and I got to talk with them a bit after the show. I think I bought a shitload of swag too, like one each of their vinyls which I tacked up on my wall for decoration.

Very very cool band.

There's no way I'd pay that kind of money for a baseball game.

That would be A-Rod, and he's only ninth on this list that includes product endorsement contracts:

Tiger's going to make well over a billion bucks before he's through.

This bunch is also doing fine:
