If oil is at $200 a barrel next year, what are you going to do about it?
What is he going to do about it?
Whether they have the oil or not, If It's gone or if opec is holding out, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? :x
Either way it will be $200 a barrel someday, are you prepared or are you going to sit around and pretend it's a conspiracy?

It's the same thing with apples at $3.99 a pound, you know we're not running out of apples, but it's still $3.99 a pound.

Wow am I ever convinced

For a second or two I thought it was Matt explaining stuff from his basement, then I realized this guy knew way more than Matt.

It could have been worse....his conspiracy theories could have been at least as incoherent as the 9-11 nutjobs, but weren't.

Why....use less of course.

JD has been advocating the perfect solution to this problem, and the most obvious solution, and the most effective.

Don't use none.

My point is, either way oil is about to get real expensive, whether opec is hording it or not.
Are you going to buy a hummer or a bike?
are you going to buy apples for $5.99 or plant some trees?

And I'm directing my anger at the idiot in the video not sciencegirl or anybody on this board.

People like him will be the reason why there'll be riots in this country, too. If people don't know the truth, they'll assume it really is all a big conspiracy and they'll start burning down buildings and turning over cars to try to get the "conspirators" to relent. We'll waste a lot of time, energy, and resources trying to defeat phantom problems instead of the real ones.

Sciencegirl, I couldn't even watch the whole video. Why this man had to squeeze into the corner of a pig ugly gym (d'ya suppose he was wearing his best hat?) to deliver his ad-hoc 'theory' is a mystery. Do you think that's his bug out? Hiding from the PO aware wife? Hiding from a riot at the local gas station....?

You gotta hand it to him, I mean he REALLY prepared his stuff. AND he has oil wells on his land! he MUST know what he's talking about!

I think this guy thinks himself profound, but he's just regurgitating all the stuff that has been pumped into his head by other folks who have done zero research, and thus their first reaction to price increases is always the conspiracy theory.

His first hugely mistaken hypothesis is that oil companies are producing even more from domestic sources than they ever did. And, it just goes on from there, a huge oil fantasy.

I don't know if it was his best hat but I thought the unfinished gym really lent credibility to his theory!!

So if I understand correctly, there are plenty of fossil fuels to last us through our grandkids lives and we can go on spewing pollution like there's no next century, right?! [smilie=bs.gif]

I just went to a meeting of truckers and it was pretty obvious that they wanted to scapegoat environmentalists and greenies. They want lower fuel prices and they feel that it's a big conspiracy. I think this guy speaks for a lot of people who are mad as hell. They don't know anything about peak oil, and yet they want to tell us why it's a bunch of bull. Not a very convincing argument. His points are:

"There's a lot of oil.

The enviros and the media love to tell you that the sky's falling.

They can get lots of oil from new places like Kentucky.

He owns land in Kentucky, and they leased it for oil and gas.

You can't trust the numbers. The Government is hiding the real numbers. (I wonder which government he's talking about)

There's so much oil you can't believe it. "

I think that this guy is in the first stage of peak oil awareness, it's called denial. He may change his tune as he learns more.

Look at JD. He doesn't deny peak oil any more. It took a while.
Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

"Oil companies aren't telling how much they're producing!"

Sure thing, fatty.

There's a guy at TOD calls himself "Francois", occasionally he calls into question fundamental data - production numbers from the IEA, all of it. Makes ya think...

"They can extract so much more oil now!"

Hmmm last quarter I believe Exxon missed earnings estimates due to various reasons.. one of which was sighted was lower oil production due to field depletion. Now why on earth would a big greedy oil company like Exxon Mobil willingly produce less oil at or near record high prices so that they make less money???

Another thing is that these conspiratorial blame the greens guys dont seem to understand scale. For example what Revi said about Kentucky... yeah they might say "weve got over 1 million barrels of oil in the ground that they wont let us drill!!" Now to the layman that sounds like a hell of a lot of oil but considering the insane rate in which its consumed its less than a drop in the bucket. You can look at anwr or the discovery in the gulf last year for examples too.. the ignorant sight that as a reason that the oil is still plentiful and yet they cant even grasp that at best thats only a couple % of demand.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lionstone', 'M')y point is, either way oil is about to get real expensive, whether opec is hording it or not.

Maybe. Maybe not. The prevailing wisdom seems to be its relatively economy dependant.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lionstone', '
')Are you going to buy a hummer or a bike?
are you going to buy apples for $5.99 or plant some trees?

I made a change in my vehicles last summer after clocking some 9000 miles in June, and getting tired of 17 mpg.

I will make more changes if the price goes up above, say, $5/gal.

I guess that means...I agree with you! :-D [smilie=5cool.gif]

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lionstone', '
')And I'm directing my anger at the idiot in the video not sciencegirl or anybody on this board.

The guy in the video wasn't any worse in his factual errors than those which float around here in the OPPOSITE direction ( Overpopulation! Overshoot! Nuclear war! Starvation! Dehydration! Lack of plastic pumpkins! Zombies! Lions and Tigers and Bears! ).

Matt is just a reasonable example of how poorly people understand things...like...say....that uranium isn't a fossil fuel.
