Movie: "A Man Called Horse"

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Tue 11 Dec 2007, 22:19:54

Just watched that old flick from 1970 for the first time since I was a kid. Marvelous movie. Completely unsentimental version of Sioux Indian life in the early 19th Century. Richard Harris in perhaps his best role as an English lord captured and brought low. He gradually comes to respect them as they in turn come to regard him highly as well. The gritty down to earth quality of the movie is notable. The best cinematic treatment of American Indians, in my opinion.

I'm also going to nominate Little Big Man, if you get a chance to see it, so do. Funny and gritty-realistic all at the same time.

Yes, "Horse" is great, and there's another terrific Richard Harris movie of that genre: "Man In The Wilderness".

NYT Review Summary

I actually like it even more than "Horse". Must-see if you get the chance.
