I'm curious to know the demographics of the people who post on this site. Particularly, age and political inclination . I know this won't fit everybody, but please try and choose the categories that best suit you.
Please, post honestly.

For some reason I can't get the poll options page... everyone please wait until this is fixed.

16, female, white, living in unincorporated Seminole County, Florida. High school student, work at the Central Florida Zoo on weekends. Politically, I'd call myself a left-libertarian. Found out about PO through Michael Moore's book Dude, Where's My Country? a little less than a year ago.

I'm 36, married with two kids, French, moved to Canada 10 years ago. I'm a scientist in computer vision and work in a research institute. Politically, I used to be Trotskyist 15 years ago ( [smilie=bduh.gif] ) but now I'm not so sure how I could label myself. PO slapped me in the face 6 months ago.

I'm 23, male, in Riverside, CA. I'm going to get my BS in Pure Math after I complete a year of graduate school next school year. I swing a bit to the left, but in all seriousness, it's short-sightedness I can't stand.

Aaron is trying to help out with the poll issues... The poll should be
Age < 25 & liberal
Age < 25 & conservative
25-45 & liberal
25-45 & conservative
46+ & liberal
46+ & conservative

Please ignore all other poll options.

Those who have already posted prior to the poll getting fixed, please choose one.

Hmmm there's no button for "25-45 with political beliefs not easily categorized by the American pseudo-dicotomy of liberal vs conservative."

Actually, maybe "25-45y/o wingnut" would convey the meaning. :-D

I'm a 34 year old left-leaning entropic surrealist on a bicycle. Why do I keep going in circles?

My wife is also 34, peak oil aware, and 22 weeks pregnant.

I'm sorry I don't think your poll is meaningful

Unread postby julianj » Wed 02 Feb 2005, 18:16:53

The problem is, that if you are going by a US standard of the Left/right divide, then your political data is meaningless.

In my opinion, the USA is skewed so far to the right that your definitions simply are not relevant to, certainly Britain, most of Europe and the rest of the world IMO.

For example, I would say most British people who call themselves conservatives are to the left of the US Democrats. And some people think that the UK has gravitated to the right compared to the rest of Europe.

I think that's what PB was trying to tell you. If he's a commie, then what does that make me...an ubercommie....see, there isn't any way to make meaningful definitions in your terms, never mind that liberal means something different in the UK and USA.

I did think of addressing this problem in a post but I couldn't see how it would not degenerate into a mutual lack of comprehensionand probably absue , so I did not try. However your posting forced the issue.

I'm happy to tell you my age 48, and I live in London.

I'm a 17 year old asian male, currently living in the bay area, California. I still live with my parents by the way. I'm about to turn 18 in less than a month, and I'm graduating high school this June.
Politically, I'm a liberal, and I'm also a progressive person. My religious belief is atheism, and I guess thats all I'm going to say for now.

Seems like the majority of the ethnicity of this board is caucasian.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('julianj', 'T')he problem is, that if you are going by a US standard of the Left/right divide, then your political data is meaningless.

I know, but that would mean too many options in the poll.
People either generally consider themselves to be liberal or conservative... I'm just trying to get a general idea.
But, it doesn't matter anyways, the poll is screwed up beyond belief. :(

33 y.o caucasian male, 1 daughter, not exactly married, work in geospatial science for natural resource management. Politically .. wingnut/darkgreen-libertarian. Liberals are just conservatives too cosseted to know fear. Conservatives are just liberals too scared to extend the circle of privilege. (are cheap shots allowed on this thread? javascript:emoticon('')
