Fed Rate Cut?

Unread postby jasonraymondson » Sun 02 Dec 2007, 03:56:12

Since they continually cut the rate it seems now every month, what amount do you think they will cut it this time?

I am thinking that 25 isn't working that they might go 50 this time

It's going to be 50, and that's not going to work either.

At some point, the money will see this for what it is, a frantic attempt to keep things running until November 2008.

If another rate cut further weakens the dollar, then it's completely nuts to lower rates.Everyone here knows what will happen to the price of crude and how inflationary that is.They should stay put or raise rates slightly or have an even bigger problem down the road with inflation. That said, will they lower rates?Probably.
Gimme some demand destruction.

Lowering rates by 25 basis points is a bad idea but if they go no further than that point, it will be survivable.

Lowering rates by 50 basis points with a possibility of further cuts? Absolute disaster.

Re-inflating the housing bubble is going to cause the consumer price index to skyrocket upward.

A 50BP cut could not be hidden by government bullsh*t math. We would see it at the grocery stores, gas stations, Wal*Marts, and in the dollar index.

There is ZERO chance of the housing buble being reinflated even if rates go to ZERO.

This is a solvency crisis and there is nothing the fed can do about it.

My guess is every bank on the planet will go BK. Then all banks will be consolidated under JP Morgan...just a hunch.

No fears, dog food is [mostly] edible, from what I hear. We'll survive.

And the Fed sez we're richer for it! :-D

Thanks for the input, that is kind of what I was thinking as well.

Why the hell did we ever let this world get to condition it is in. Why the hell are we the people so fucking blind, lazy, and stupid that we would allow fuckers like those in the fed and the whitehouse sell us down the toilet?

Makes me fucking sick sometimes to call myself an american.

Better find a way to get a positive attitude Jason' the fall hasn't even started yet and its a long way down.

Also in the 1930s the US was...
the industrial power house of the world
Largest creditor nation
Exporter of all basic commodities
Actually had gold in its Reserves (which still called "Bullion Reserves")
A population of only 120M

So take the above presentation with a grain of salt. The Great Depression of the '10s will be much worse

HHHmmm...
If we look at this objectively:
Why would the government Want to destroy the value of the dollar?
What plan would make this a necessary step?

And this would only make it worse!

Unless the Amero's are backed by gold, I don't seem being worth anymore.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', 'W')hy would the government Want to destroy the value of the dollar?

The government only stands to "benefit" by destroying the dollar...
Cancels foreign debt and obligations which can never be repaid.
Initially pleases voters with easy money.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', 'W')hat plan would make this a necessary step?

indirect printing through lower interest rates and lower margins
direct printing through buying treasuries and illiquid bonds (SIVs and their ilk)

This ultimately spells hyperinflation and disaster but don't forget the Hubris of TPTB. As stated by a previous Treasury "Its our dollar, but your problem". The belief that this game of chicken worked in the past is what is driving policy these days. The only problem is that the US is effectively insolvent and has no choice but to inflate. Its a game of chicken where one of the drivers has no brakes or steering.

the linchpin to it all is the Chinese. As long as they continue to float the US everything will continue along (albeit insanely so). Once the Chinese have their little "coming out" party the game will be over and China will show its true colors

Let me guess. You ran to the nearest bank and started shooting up their furniture with a riot gun while screaming:"What are you doing with my f#cking money, you morons?".

Hate those moments

btw, yield curve is inverted so a 0.25% rate cut is now guaranteed. And with the way LIBOR is going, a 0.50% is becoming more likely on a daily basis.

The FED is a bank. It works for the banks and will do what it can to save the banks. You, I, and the President down the street, we're just the pawns used to justify their existance
