$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')y question is - Is the average US citizen truly as xenophobic, morally bankrupt and murderous as this fair portion of reactionary web forum participants illustrate? And are people aware of the effect such statements have on people in foreign countries?
Well, not all of them are. But there are just enough. Just enough to fuck things up. It seems that most of the people around here are depressed and generally unhappy, and those are the confirmed ones; there are the unconfirmed ones that don't admit to such feelings, since insecurity and self-bullshitting are common practice. If you watch commercials, which is directed at the average US citizen, you'll see that the general message I observe is: "You're a piece of shit or are unhappy, but our product will make you decent or happy." You'll also see plenty of commercials about shiny objects that entertain, because I guess people need the comfort of sparkling things that beep in order to temporarily ignore the reality of their lives.
So there's a good chance that people are pissed off due to their unhappiness, so it's no wonder that they're looking for multiple emotional punching bags. The true wrath may now be kept at bay due to the variety of entertainment, but if people, for whatever reason, couldn't afford that entertainment, then they would have to find another way to channel their anger. I don't know what they'd use, but I think the results would be...unpleasant.
I personally think that about ninety percent of the people I encounter are people I would not want to encounter again. I live in probably one of the least obnoxious places in the country, and I am still repelled by most public places. I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but from what people who have been around the country have described, it seems much worse than where I live.
But don't believe what I say; you might want to see for yourself. But it'll probably be better to spend money on a vacation that you'll actually enjoy.
