Have I Peaked?

Unread postby Heineken » Sun 11 Nov 2007, 23:19:44

Gettin' tired. Tired o' writin' posts. Tired o' readin' posts. Tired o' "news" and the cacophony o' doom (to which I've added with my tin pan and spoon).

Weary, sleepy, resigned, over it.

What do you do when you've said all you can say, thought all you can think, drunk all you can drink?

Heineken- If you're feeling burned out, take a couple of weeks away till the siren call of the forum draws you back...or not...you've certainly done your part.

BTW, has your drought situation there in Virginia improved any? Gotten any good rains?

I don’t know heiny, just keep on going I guess.

Take a break from talking here, maybe.

Smell (whatever is sweet) and get your bearings.

Then do what the things you need to do and come back here and talk about what you did.

I'm no expert on psychology tho...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'W')hat do you do when you've said all you can say, thought all you can think, drunk all you can drink?
Rinse and repeat!!!

But yeah, I understand there's nothing wrong with taking a break from the technical side to sit back, drink a heineken and enjoy the show... I'm enjoying situation out the window at the moment, a downstairs neighbor invited a homeless guy to work on some art in her shop downstairs. The homeless guy got drunk, knocked over a bunch of stuff... Now a bunch of people are yelling at him and the show is still going on...

I took a huge break from the news...oil....etc....On the advice of my therapist and my other trusted health advisors....I do it in small doses.
Helps to keep busy doing fun stuff! I went through and am still in a withdrawal syndrome from years of boozing it up and quitting cold turkey a year back....the stress of fixating on all the bad stuff in the world really took it's toll.....had to make the change and glad I did.

Focus on the things you love to do and those you love....you can still stay in the know...just not obsessing about it. It makes a difference.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ave I Peaked?

I think I did about nine years ago. :(

I take care of my health though so the decline rate is low. Hopefully I'll still be churning out plenty of "the mana of life" into my eighties and beyond.

Thanks, all. You are all very kind and clever. Your kaleidoscopic comments give me a lift, and a tickle, and a kick.

I'm going to go work on my dam---one last big push against the elements, and my human frailties, to get the work done. I still plan to take pics and start a damned dam thread.

Guess I'm not quite done here, either . . .

Take a break from these forums, my friend. I have in the past and I always come back calmer than when I left.

Peace. :)

You are an integral part of building what has become as solid an Internet community as I have ever seen.

This place enjoys a solid foundation because of members just like you, & without which this social experiment in education would not be possible.

Your Community here @ Peakoil.com correctly predicted current oil prices... in May. This place Goggles #1 in the world for Oil News. That means that in Google's opinion, this place you built, is the most important source for news related to oil... in the whole wide-world.

Take a break... feed your brain... whatever you need.

You've earned it.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

You cant see the forest for the trees if you are overly obsessed. I have found it very important to take a distance occasionally and am just now re-engaging after a 2 month period where I hardly contributed and rarely followed this site and news in general.

It's like all relationships. There is a dependency and inertia that creeps in and you reach a point of suffocation where you need some fresh air and distance.

It helps to remind you that there is a whole world of realities out there and that seeing the world through the prism of peak oil is one of many facets. It is a key to understanding what is coming our way but it can also create blinders where you miss a lot of other stuff happening if you get hung up constantly interpreting events only through this prism

You end up coming back with a more healthy perspective as well as insights that would not have been possible otherwise.

Good luck to you!

Hopefully just the bottom of a cycle. Whilst never entirely happy I do cycle between wry bemusement at the fate we have wrought for oursleves and being quite depressed.

As others have said take a break and enjoy the moment, your family, a nice blue sky, a walk in the rain when it comes.

Before the current drought here in the Land Downunder I used to scurry from shelter to shelter when it was raining. Now unless its absolutely pouring down I enjoy a walk in the rain.

As things begin to unravel I suspect we will rediscover the simpler pleasures we have taken for granted or ignored for so long.

One of the things Peak Oil revealed to me was how utterly obsessed with material wealth I had become. With the realisation that I would become materially poorer also came the discovery that "more" of everything wasn't making me happy anyway. That greed is not good, in fact it is truly evil.
