$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('peripato', 'Y')es, but there are limits to what can be achieved with things like tar sands production.
Very true. 3 mbpd in 2015, maybe 5 mbpd in 2020-2025? At best.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('peripato', 'T')his other stuff that makes up "all-liquids" part of ledger will gain against crude, for a few more years, perhaps 10, it's true, but crude will fall faster in the meantime.
We'll see.

I'm actually hoping for an early peak to shock us into action, and then massive new investment to smooth the decline. I think that would be the best situation.
Peak oil is not an energy crisis. It is a liquid fuel crisis.

More from Strahan.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')xxonMobil chief executive Rex Tillerson told me recently that non-OPEC production growth would be all over in “two to three years”. So from early in the next decade, by common consent, it’s all down to OPEC.

If even Exxon says non-OPEC is almost peaked, it surely has already peaked.

3 mbpd by 2020 at best. Other figures are spruiking.

Of course this other stuff could stall earlier, especially if it costs too much to extract, the equipment or manpower isn't there, or we have a prolonged global economic downturn. This would definitely accelerate the rate of decline.

I think you'll get your wish. Shock would not be the word I'd use. More like fear, loathing or panic.
