I don’t know what the similarities are, but I know the U.S. Navy has been running its Aircraft Carriers for life times of over 40 years. The U.S.S. Kitty Hawk is 46 years old right now and still on active duty.

When my father was in the Navy in the early 60’s the U.S.S. Hornet and Yorktown were considered antiques just because they’d served in WWII;
At that time and they weren’t even 20 years old.

When Nelson took the H.M.S. Victory to Trafalgar it was already 50 years old!

When it comes to miliraty equipment, lifetimes have increased a lot because the pace of innovation has fallen, at least in stuff requiring new hulls, or new tanks or planes.

Just consider the number of tank classes fielded during WW2, or the number of new aircraft classes fielded in the 50's.

Is the same true for oil rigs?
