oil prices- who to blame??

General discussions of the systemic, societal and civilisational effects of depletion.

oil prices- who to blame??

Unread postby billyk » Thu 01 Nov 2007, 11:30:44

OPEC say's that they have no control over oil prices. It's market driven. They are right to a point. Maybe the traders, hedge fund managers & SPECULATORS are to blame. Maybe it shouldn't even be sold on the commodities markets as it's too valuable a recourse to be in the hands of gamblers who never plan on fullfilling a contract. When global economies depend on oil it might be something to think about. billyk

Do you look to assign blame every time the prices at your local shops go up? Do you think cheap oil is your "human right"? Oil at $100 would still be dirt cheap. Way too cheap for its true value. If anything there is a lot of manipulation to keep oil prices down so that western and dependent industrial economies can function. As evidence for this, look at the absurd market response to US oil stocks. Oil stocks are not oil sources and their levels are totally irrelevant to the supply of oil. Next week we'll have some "report" that they are "up" and the clique of oil speculators will drive the price down to $85 or less. Too bad for the mainpulators that this ain't cod we are talking about and there won't be another supply of fish to replace oil with. There is no infrastructure to convert sufficient amounts of coal to oil or to use alternatives. It is the price manipulation of oil that keeps the dead-end status quo alive.

The reason oil prices are high is simple - production has been flat for around 3 years now yet demand has kept on going up.

But you can't argue the fact that it is traded like a game. Hence the comments that the supply is fine. It's speculators "betting" that perhaps some goof will plow up a pipeline so for that we'll bid a contract up. Once those costs go up it affects alot of other industries. When you run a business & your customers cut back because of fuel costs it hurts alot of small business people who simply can't pass the costs on. billyk

The supply is not fine.

That's the problem.

The mainstream media talk shit.

All the signs are that we are at peak oil - on the bumpy plateau.

If they don't pass them on, they'll simply close up shop and take up subsistence farming. Like most of us. Don't shed too many tears for small business; save plenty for yourself.

Everyone who makes more than a dollar a day is to blame lol.

The golden age of cheap energy and the parasite population is coming to a close. The Spartans had the Helots to prop up their military based culture. The west had every dumb fuck they could con into taking the dollar and dollar based securities for limited natural resources. You can blame anyone you like and it will not put one more drop of oil in the ground.

this is bs everytime the main reason oil prices goes up ans gasoline is becuase of the government and rich men on the markets. they no so long we need gas they will continue raising oil prices and gas prices at the pump. if most you believe we r in trouble with oil supplies your been fooled. its greed and power buy these rich oil company. when tht guy tht recently retired from exxon mobile oil company and get a 400 million dollar retirment package tht to me sounds like something strange to me. everytime we turn around the market ppl give us excuses why the oil prices r jumping and crap like tht. weather it is huricane season r war with iran. all bull crap excuse just to make themselves richer. but you no what they will tell you what they want to hear and no. they aint going to sit their and tell we are going to raise oil prices just make ourselfs richer. they will tell you oh winter is going to be bad r hurricane season is going to be awful and so on.. even r government has their hands in the pot by accepting payoffs. mr. bush even a oil man himself has alot to do with this oil flying higher everyday. back 8 years ago when clinton was in the white house oil was like 40 dollars a barrael. but in less then 8 years barrel of oil has gone up by 60 dollars in a short span since clinton days. bush has alot to do with the oil price surge hes taking payoffs as well but most of you are not going to accept tht are you because you want to believe what the mediea and the goveerment wants you to believe.are goverment is is total loss until we as the people take back our conpany and put it in the hands in main hand it was founded on which is God almighty himself. and get a true bible believe man back in the white house and turn turn country around back to were it was before .

I take it your doormat doesn't read "welcome" :-D

Although billyk appears to be a newbie and that concept of realising who to blame needs to come a little later. That's that kind of realisation you have to come to on your own and in your own time.

Billyk needs to understand what Peak Oil is about first, before we stick the knife into them.

But you are right. He is to blame.

yep- I probably am to blame! It's still aggravating that it is the most volitile commodity in the pits. You don't see these kinds of fluctuations with corn(although it has been higher of late), or hogs, cattle ect. I'm getting a different vehicle at the end of the year-trying to eliminate some blame! It is supposed to get 40 miles per gallon. Put a Tornado fuel saver on & who knows?? I did see a report by a BP oil analyst that said oil will be in the low 70's come next year. A few large fields will begin producing. Marathon oil is adding a large expansion onto a refinery( a whole nother post!). Yes- I'm an optimist and a small business owner. What else do we got?? billyk
