$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Peak oil: How serious is it?

-snip-

Oil is a finite resource, which means that at some point it is going to run out. Everyone agrees that this is going to happen, the point of contention is when it is going to happen.

Some ‘peak oil’ analysts argue that the end, which they claim is imminent, will herald the collapse of the global economy and result in devastating resource wars (which some suggest have already begun, like in Iraq). While others — generally policy makers and those in the camps of Big Oil companies — suggest that we still have almost half a century to come up with alternative energy sources.

Economists argue that before oil resources are completely exhausted, rising oil prices would have made alternative energy sources a more economically viable option and therefore would have brought about a shift away from our reliance on oil.

Well, when it starts off with a blatant mischaracterization of peak oil, I have to doubt how interesting it could be.
