What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('whereagles', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Starvid', 'I') don't know about you guys but I think it feels like we have a $10-20 fear and specualtion premium, which could go away as fast as it arrived.

Even though I, of course, believe prices will go up in the long and medium term.

There's definitely some fear premium, but supply/demand stuff was going headed to $90 anyway. The recent turkish vote only speeded it up.

does it really make sense to parse out "fear premium" from commodity prices? commodities exchanges were founded on fear of the future. Fear is part of what commodities mean, inextricably.

now, if you have a reason to say that fear will rise or abate at some time in the future based on events, then you have something to talk about.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('idomar', 's')pot prices above $90 for Tapis, WTI and Louisiana Sweet,

Link

Brent and WTI futures at 86.16 and 89.02

I know that the numbers were bad yesterday, but is this still the fall out from that or is there something else that we dont know about?

anyway wheeeeeeee

What we know is bad enough - OPEC ready to drop dollar pricing, threats against Iran by the US, threats against Iraq by Turkey, Mexico hit by worst GOM drilling disaster in 43 years due to bad weather (but of course we'll still keep hearing that tropical storms had no effect on oil supplies), UAE oil fields closing up for the month of November, world demand well in excess of supply.

Gasoline supplies to be sharply reduced by an unexpected closure of Aruba refinery in October - with a 5 million barrel loss of gasoline output.

What's worse than that we don't know about?

well if you will put a negative spin on things :)

I thought that all of this stuff had already been priced in, I mean if we know about it, then so do they, I was just surprised to see the futures contracts head MORE north after sitting at around $1 up for most of the day, to +2.40 ish now

I thought that warplanes might have been mobilised and be flying somewhere, or i need to stop drinking coffee and go for a little nap, as my sphincter-o-meter is at maximum pucker.

Looks like $100 isn't far away. I get the feeling that they can't hide the oil production declines anymore and $3-4 increased as day will be the norm.

Predicting prices day to day, week to week, and month to month is hazardous.

However if you see Turkey move towards Iraq's oil fields, an attack on Iran, or more OPEC members abandoning the dollar, all of our previous ideas about the price of oil will be thrown out the window.

I'd sell USO, but what else is out there to buy? Besides, there's all this talk of 100 by X-Mas.

Cushing, OK crude oil supplies, the primary WTI delivery point, are running lower than they have been for some years:

EIA

Ironically, there is a major construction project ongoing at Cushing to greatly expand crude inventory capacity at that location. Too bad there is no oil to put in those big, shiny, new holding tanks.

Also market pricing is in backwardation, that is the price is expected to drop over the coming months. Futures prices are for delivery about one month ahead of current cash prices.
