The only non experts thread

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

I personally don't think that this expert thing is a big deal. However, it is interesting that people who generally blame the real world's so called experts for the problems we now face, seem to want the title themselves. They feel it has some sort of power, deserving or not. A title will not validate your posts, only substance will.

It will be interesting to see if members curve their posting style in order too appease Aaron.

Maybe that is the ultimate goal, to see how many sheeple we have posting about other sheeple.

If you want to be recognized for your occupation, you could include relevant information in your signature.

Oh JB - you have that right.

This is about control.

Monte...King Coal...have both stated that this site has degraded well beyond desirable...

In other words...dissention to them is wrong.

I believe Aaron...while tolerant of dissention...wants more chiefs as the flock of sheep increases as PO gets more play....in his mind this keeps the site "monitored" by posting slaves like AP.

Unfortunately because these "experts" are not experts it will backfire and actually cause more degradation.

See- now AP cannot post to the 911 thread without looking like Aaron supports his position that 911 was not an inside job.

Aaron has hobbled AP....I like that!!!

Oh, but you will have someone like PA say "looking into it way too muck rocc" and yet he thinks this is a spin off from a college experiment....yeah right PA!

If I listed my occupation, and people read and misinterpreted my free professional advice, I could get sued out of existence.

No Effing way. I gots to eat.

The expert title is bad policy, unless the intention is to stifle discussion and piss everyone off. I supposed I could respect that in a sinister sense, if it were by intention. It may prove to be an inventive way to reduce server load.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jasonraymondson', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I') belong here. I am a belligerent generalist. I do not have the confidence (hubris?) of a specialist and therefore can not parse, dissemble, and reduce every argument to suit my particular business plan. We are the truth.

Thank you for joining our humble group on the mentally incompetent.
That is of the mentally uncompetent you f#cking tosser.

I think you'll find the word is incompetent you knobjockey

There, Aaron, do I get expert status now I've stamped on one of the unworthy?

OK, gold stars. They're really cool. Please, can I have gold stars?

What's the big deal?

The purpose of the "Expert" system to try and determine who he knows has experience and knowledge.

The Experts help out other people on the board who need information. That's a responsibility.

The Mods help moderate discussions, delete illegal or offensive content, and keep this website from spiraling out of control. That's a responsibility.

With responsibility should come privileges. All responsibility no privileges = slaves.

So if they get a higher status for being willing to give away their time to HELP THE SITE, then good for them.

I personally don't want to be called an expert on here, due to the fact that it would mean I couldn't say whatever crazy stuff I want(which is half of the fun of coming to this site).

I wouldn't want the job of mod, because it would mean I'd have to do a lot of work moderating threads and all that jazz.

Exactly!!

So would all the experts post links to their publications that have been critically peer reviewed.

Thanks!!

threadbear, I really, really have enjoyed pm'ing with you and I happen to agree with 99% of your stuff. But you haven't tried hard enough to remove your new title. So get out of here. I do not interact with those of higher caste. Starting today.

I think you're confusing a privately owned website with a publicly accountable institution.

In order to remedy this confused state, I suggest getting dressed, going out and getting a life.

I started this thread, because I think a public caste system is wrong, but hey I don't have expert next to my name, so my opinion is fucking worthless.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', 'P')lantagenet, your post reminds me of Jane Elliott's Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes Exercise Prejudice

Thats it exactly: Prisoners/Guards, Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes, and Experts/Non-experts

In these kind of psychological experiments an "authority figure" randomly creates two classes of people, with one group labelled as being superior or in control of the other. Inevitably, people start to accept and act out their roles. The "lower class" resent their low status while the "upper class" is empowered.

I don't know if the experiment has been carried out in an "on-line" community before. Maybe we've all become unknowing participants in an experiment being carried out for a community college psychology class project or something.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I') changed my mind. I believe you misanthropes and malcontents are unfairly and ignorantly judging Aaron. After all, he invented this web site and has been peak-oil aware for longer than most. He understands the need for leadership and authority in these difficult times and the responsibility we all have here to get the peak-oil message out in a concise and erudite fashion.

It is good to have authorities that newbies, pundits, and the confused riff-raff can look up to during the strenuous debates that so enliven this wonderful internet resources. It is always convenient and reassuring to have a leader to look up to and reference during a heated discussion on dieoff, acid rain, zombies, and MRE's

We need people who have media skills and technical expertise with the energy systems that are ruining our planet. Like you jbecton. What better than having someone who actually lives in the belly of the beast relate to us the wonders of modern technology. After all, these are the magic bullets that will slay those evil doomers.
