Paul Maidment On Energy 2017

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'D')espite the advances made in energy efficiency, energy supply will continue to (barely) keep up with the rise in demand. In 10 years, nuclear and alternative fuels will still do little more than chip away at fossil fuels' dominance of world energy supplies. Efficiency gains will be mandated for cars, planes, homes and businesses by a second Kyoto treaty. Those gains will help the world to power the 60% increase in global output over the coming decade. Oil could break $120 a barrel mark in 2017, but, adjusting for inflation, it will be no more expensive than it is today and still cheaper than it was in the 1970s in real terms.

Minirefineries--The technology will be near the point where small, clean, local refining of crude will be economically viable, further weakening NIMBY opponents.

That predictions that the world will run out of oil will prove as unfounded as they were when first made a century and a half ago.

Just a tad optimistic is my guess. Here's hoping he's right

"That predictions that the world will run out of oil will prove as unfounded as they were when first made a century and a half ago."

Who predicted that? It was predicted that oil production in the US would decline and that was right. This guy is obviously making straw man arguments. A 60% efficiency gain for cars plans and homes over the next 10 years, that would be quite something.

"Africa--A new generation of anti-economic colonialists will become increasingly militant over foreign control of energy and other natural resources."

Anti-economic colonialists? Not quite sure what he means there.

Techno-utopia is basically what the guy is saying, no need to make any effort technology will do everything for you.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', 'G')raeme, maybe you could do us all a favor and start posting all this far out garbage in the Energy Technology forum instead of continually spamming this trash in the Current Energy News forum. Most of your threads are hardly 'news'. Borderline trolling in my opinion. :x

The post is appropriate for this forum because the article was published on the 15th October this year. I am entitled to my opinion just as Paul Maidment and you are entitled to yours. They obviously differ otherwise I wouldn't be attacked by you. They are equally valid in this forum because the timing and shape of peak oil are controversial and far from clear. There are widely varying opinions as to what these are. The consequences of peak oil are also far from clear. It is absurd to suggest that an economical depression and population die-off is inevitable especially for those who believe that peak oil has already occurred because these consequences have not happened. BTW, continual economic growth with business as usual is equally absurd. All agree that peak oil will occur. If you would like to do us a favour and explain your position regarding peak oil and give reaons. Otherwise you too could be accused of borderline trolling simply by introducing the word.
