Are you doing this on your own initiative, Number 6?

PayPalSucks.com

(use PayPal for eBay myself and haven't had a problem with it (as far as I know...), thought I'd throw that in anyway.

an e-wallet like neteller. you sign up, people send money, you withdraw the money to your bank account, profit 8)
it started as an easy way to fund sports betting accounts, but now it's a lot more widespread. the commission is a lot cheaper than an international bank transfer, so people use it instead of western union and other such robbing schemes.

I think that:

1) a goal of 1000 bucks per month is too high
2) too much bandwidth is wasted on guests

Regarding 1), iidb.org has a goal of 10k per year. Compare their board to peakoil.com's:

Maybe you got a bad hosting deal?

As for 2), several sections should be hidden to guests, to encourage people signing up or leaving if they want to leech without contributing.

Sorry folks... PayPal changed their Kung Fu & the Donate O Meter isn't showing the donations... although they are going through.

We are troubleshooting as we speak.

Will Update...

We hope to raise enough to pay for an upgrade in our bottleneck server processes & improve performance around here. It's not bandwidth that's the problem. Mostly it's ancient phpnuke software, MySQL database back-end & processor cycles.

This would be our 5th such upgrade since we started.

We did try that... on my suggestion actually, some time ago.

I was roundly derided for the move & our members only section whithered & died.

Perhaps it's time we revisit this topic?

How about a conversion of the whole forum to vBulletin? Wouldn't that speed up things?

On the left_hand pane, there's a donate button in the Donat-O-Meter window. Or click here. It uses paypal.

Aaron, are you on target for this month?
