$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Blacksmith', 'I') don't know to whom my heart cries out more, the homeless or some of the people who have made comments on this thread

I wasn't. The homeless are the most susceptible to peak oil's damages. Their kinda like third world countries that get priced out of the oil market as prices of oil(and many other things like food) rise. Its not a matter of compassion, just observation.

Man on trial for feeding homeless

Unread postby dukey » Tue 09 Oct 2007, 21:08:30

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')t's the first trial of its kind. A man is facing a judge and jury for violating Orlando's ban on feeding the homeless. Eric Montanez, 22, was caught feeding a group in Lake Eola Park earlier this year. The prosecution told Eyewitness News their case rests on video taken of Montanez feeding the homeless, breaking Orlando's feeding ban.

He was found to be not guilty, but putting him on trial shows how clueless Orlando is. I'm boycotting Disneyland.

Yes, they will go away.

At least, they'll go to places with greater availability of food.

And if you really make sure they don't get anything to eat, they'll go away permanently.

Anyway, I will make sure I never, ever break Orlando's law. Trust me on this. 8)

If you want more homeless people, let the word get around that you will feed them and house them for free.

Just ask San Francisco. :P

Homeless haven rethinks tolerance

By Mark Sappenfield | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

SAN FRANCISCO - It takes only a few blocks to realize that street people and panhandlers are as much a part of this gilded hill city as the Golden Gate, the Presidio, or the striking views of Alcatraz from Russian Hill.
San Francisco belongs to them as much as it does to the scions of Pacific Heights or former dotcomers now working in temp jobs. In this tolerant city, politicians who have sought to remove them from street corners have long been labeled callous - and often rousted from office.

Here, urinating in public is a cherished right.

As the problem grows, however, San Francisco appears to be reaching its breaking point. According to some estimates, it has roughly the same number of homeless people as New York, even though it has one-tenth the population. Two years ago, nearly 200 people died on the streets - twice as many as in the state of Florida.

---------------

FREE FOOD!!! All the homeless are welcome in San Francisco...FREE FOOD!!! Spread the word!

Those were great photos, thanks.

Feed them or don't feed them, it's your choice...and theirs. It shouldn't be legislated.

It reminds me of Children of Men. We are very smug until we end up as the homeless, or the refugees. The poor are always with us. Think you are never going to be poor? We all know what peak oil might turn into.

My grandfather had a car and a place in the country after emigrating from Sweden in the 1920's. They lost it all and had to move back to Sweden in the early 30's.

We're approaching that cliff again. We might all be at the feeding stations. If we're lucky...

Intentional Homelessness

Unread postby Polemic » Thu 11 Oct 2007, 14:46:55

You don't have much money. You don't have kids. You're unsure of your future agenda. You don't really know where to live or what kind of work to do. You're quite sure that most jobs that exist today, won't exist in the near future. You're leery of 'blowing your load' on one particular plan, or job, or piece of property, or even one piece of ass.

So Why Intentional Homelessness?

- Save Money and Time. It's likely that money is going to become harder to attain, while goods are going to become more expensive. For those already struggling to get by, this implies impending doom. Also, if one only had a little extra cash now to invest in tangibles (guns, gold, silver, food, seeds, tools, etc.), it could significantly improve one's future lot.

Homelessness allows you to keep a lot more of the money you earn to invest in your future. No rent. No electricity, cable, internet, water, or trash bills. But that doesn't necessarily mean you can't have those things: like water, electricity, and internet...

Life is too short to waste. Homelessness can mean time-richness.

- Flexibility and Mobility. You're not tied down to any leases, or contracts, or too many possessions. You can pack up and go on a moment's notice - whether because of danger, or necessity, or opportunities elsewhere.

To be continued...

Hey the more people who get out of the production and consumption pyramid scheme the better, in my opinion.

I've given it some thought, and the only truly "free" people in this "land of the free" are the homeless. They can go anywhere they want. They also serve as a reminder of the decadence of our society, in that they can live off of our waste.

But for those of us who enjoy the finer things in life, like air conditioned apartments, dual overhead cam V-6 engines, and cable modems, the future of employment can appear bleak, with bubbles set to burst all around. Bleak unless you choose a field of employment essential to life. Nobody needs a cellphone kiosk dude in the mall. People need food. Growing food, transporting food, producing fertilizers, transporting fertilizers, selling food, etc.

Before giving up on society, consider being a producer, rather than just a consumer.

Kind of funny how people in America get rid of their homes first before they dumb the car. You can live without a home but can't live without a car. This explains how we got into the mess we are in and where we are going.

Because she's an old woman and she's alone? Squatting is dangerous.
