For most of the 19th c. gasoline was a dangerous "waste product". It was usually "burned off" just to get rid of it. The vapor lamps were an attempt to develop a market for this dangerous substance. In 1885 Daimler and Benz built the first successful gasoline engine based on the N. A. Otto four stroke system; within a year they had built the first gasoline ICE powered vehicle--the answer to J. D. Rockefeller's dreams. Now most of the denizens of the first world exist primarily to make money for Standard Oil, et. al.

Good Construction Equipment Deals on Ebay

Unread postby TommyJefferson » Sat 18 Aug 2007, 13:23:27

I'm seeing great deals on Ebay for construction equipment. If you're in the market for some tools, the prices are falling. I'm in the market for a fall protection full-body harness, 120 meters of static rope, a set of tree climbing gaffs, an echo string trimmer/edger, $600 cowboy boots, bespoke shirts, and handmade Italian loafers.

$200 harnesses are going for $10.

$130 gaffs are going for $10.

Static rope is not down enough for me. Nice clothes should start showing up soon from Wall Street. If you've not checked Ebay for tools in a while, now might be the time to start watching.

I was a high-rise window cleaner for a number of years; and so have ropes, harnesses, bosun's chairs, lanyards, descent-control devices, etc. I've picked up some great deals off e-baby for this stuff in the past.

Here's some stuff I would recommend adding to your ninja toolkit:

Since I'm on the subject, that's a picture of me on a twenty-story building in Tulsa, OK in 1996. At the time, the building (actually one of two) was occupied by Citgo, and was the tallest building I had been on. Later, I would go as high as 72 stories, Dallas' tallest building.

Excuse my ignorance. Why would a grappling hook and to a lesser extent a rope ladder be useful?

Do you still clean windows? If not why did you stop?

Thank you.

There is a brand new auction yard just up the interstate from here. It looks to be 80 acres or so with brand new chain-link and a spiffy building too.

There's money to be made in failure, I guess. It will end with dump-mining, or worse.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

,,,, if I may... it's because in a city of millions of people, few will be able to grow their own food during the post-collapse period. Some of those without will be clever and daring enough to take extreme measures to get what's needed to buy and barter for food and other things.

It's mostly just an academic fantasy, however. Few will ever use such devices for urban gain. Most urban office towers will probably be filled with items of no value afterwards. The hooks might be useful for climbing walls but there are easier ways.

a long time ago those things where cheap with the government almost giving them away. At that time picking one up for under $50,000 maybe someone could retrofit parts of it at a reasonable price. These days you have to be ultra rich to even consider taking on the project.

T'all are thinkin in the right direction. That missile base is east of hanford and seattle, nothing ill survive there even underground, it will glow for centuries. That is probably why that gent is selling, he realizes it is useless.

Position on west coast is everything, you wont even need a shelter in many areas, and it is way more fun to live in the woods with real animals than in underground filtered air.

As for venezwella, that is where all the neocons are going, you think they wont be running the gov soon? You wont hang onto your stuff there very long, I would want to be a hemisphere away if possible.

You should stay north of the golden gate though. 1 gas tank distance or 200 miles at least. Everything south of there will go nuts with wild people. Also, one redwood tree will supply firewood for 100 years. Lots of them fall each year from wind.

Look at any map and pretend all the people in the big cities start driving OUT of there, spreading out looking for food. Try not to live on a main drag out of town or even a secondary, make sure you have to take like 4 highways before you get to your place, hopefully they all shoot each other before they get to your place.

Also, living on a dead end road would be good, and make sure there is a tree or two you can fall across the entrance to your road.
Get a chainsaw. Also at the entranc to your property should be a ditch quite deep with a real short bridge that you can hook a chain to al pull away with the pickup/ Should be a chain across the entrance stating no trespassing - bridge out.

Lots of dogs that have puppies each year. and chickens to feed the dogs. and signs that say Avian flu isolation STOP. Tresspasser will be mauled - warning.

plant blackberries all along the property and hedge also

thats a lot of things to get done in the next 4 years.

It is always coudy and rainy on the west coast this is great to prevent eyes in the sky to track you. Get to know your neighbors.
Run for mayor. get involved. Be sane. Stop talking about peak oil it won't help anyway. Put in a farm diesel tank as large as you can afford and lock it up. Do NOT tell them you are moving to the area because peak oil is here and TSWHTF soon. No. They do not need to know about peak oil at all, they are already living in the pervect area, you can tell them all about it after it happens. You are moving because you want to get out of the city and slow down a bit and try farming maybe. Always wanted to. Your grandpa was a farmer and you miss it. Never volunteer information but always be happy.talk little unless spoken to and don't be a know it all.

Buy a pickup. Trust me, you will need it. Do not drive in with a hybrid, sell the dang thing, you can get three pickups for it. Have a gun rack in the pickup window but do not have a gun in it, gotta look normal. Do not have a gun practice range on your property and never shoot on or around your property, the neighbors get worried and will not like you. I would get rid of the guns, they will come and ask for them anyway. Crossbow for game is much better.
Dogs are great for game too, teach them to drive it, and in the west, everytime we driv up at night there are 7-8 LARGE deer standing around. Crossbow with laser site is a can't miss, you can get within 25 feet of them.

Forks is one town that will never have any nuclear issues its way tooo small to hit. It's as far west as you can go in the US and it is really really close to canada by small rowboat.

The interest rates and loans hopefully will decrease now over 1-2 months.

You are living in one of the wettest spot in the US, you will always have a river and GOOD WATER and water lots of wood, and lots of goats and deer and bears. close to olympic national forest. High enough to prevent tsunami, just need a greenhouse to grow some food there, youd do ok (keep out deer and keep some of the rain off the food.

Greenhouse you can make with fenceposts 2x4 cross beams and nail up the lexan on both sides of the 2x4s for double walled warm house. And you will have a nice warm glow at night from seattle sea of glass that may be visible from the east for many years. seriously, don't drive east after the events.
