What's your favorite curse?

Unread postby Jack » Fri 05 Oct 2007, 09:04:57

You'll notice under member quotes the subtle - but pointed - curse:

"Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that Money cannot be Eaten."
Crono "

Curses can be funny, for example:

"May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits."

Or subtle:

"May you live in interesting times."

They can be classics, such as:

"Darkness take thee, thou and all thy kin!"

or mean and nasty

"May thy every affection be returned with toad cold indifference and betrayal".

My personal favorite, given my views on peak oil:

"May you live a long and healthy life, with your mind fully aware and alert throughout your long and healthy life."

OK, let's avoid any flaming - this is for fun, not for flaming. And let's also avoid foul language. So...what's your favorite curse?

The one popping directly in my mind is a pop culture quote from the movie '300'. King Leonidas at the end of the movie is about to be killed by the invading army of Xerxes; his own army having been betrayed by a banished Greek, which ultimately led to King Leonidas' forces being over run.

His simple comment, "May you live forever".

My all time favourite.

May all your kids have small dicks and that includes the girls.

No butter be on your milk nor on your ducks a web. May your cow be flayed. And may the flame be bigger and wider which will go through your soul than the Connemara mountains, if they were on fire.

go f*ck a duck in flight.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

I've got no favorite curse, but the one in the HBO series Rome was pretty good: "I curse you! I curse you!" I suppose if I was to need a good curse it could be "may the candiru fish swim in your bladder". Of course what the French king Louis IV did to his Knights Templar enemies, roasting them slowly to death might provide a good one: "May you be roasted on a spit".

An Arabic saying that is commonly used in Egypt:
Kol Sana Wa enta tayib.
The meaning of which is ....may the next year be better than all years that proceeded it.

May you die peacefully in your sleep like my Grandfather. Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

OK, it's not a curse, but it makes me laugh...

"May you live in interesting times" - ancient Chinese curse

It is neither ancient nor Chinese. Click my signature for the phrase-sleuth's recounting of his multi-year struggle to discover it's origin.

But it's a perfect curse for those having to live through the end of the oil age.

Years ago, a friend trying to comfort me over my difficult teen daughter said,

Perhaps Hubbert had the best curse. So maybe Hubbert was the King. Maybe we should even provide the title "The King Hubbert". Or something like that.

I reckon I can top most of these:

Image

Mwahahahahahah..cough, pleugh..

And, I say to thee all, give me all your money now, or there will be also... attached spreadsheets....

And many, many incoherent, late-night rantings from the boss... and demands from the accounts department for more paper-work...beyond counting these shall be, and yea, there shall also be ten-page business-projections from your underlings, from each head ye shall smite will grow ten more underlings, and, and, yey, there wilt also be many, many, nay, un-countable, emails from pissed-off customers.

All this I shall visit upon all ye hear, and nay, ten thousand more each day unil thee all send me all thy filthy lucre (grin).

(Now that's the way a real professional does it - grin...)

Edit: BTW, check the 'posts count' number on the left(!) What an odd world we live in - maybe I need to get some more early nights.

Oops...

Edit #2: Ahh, I just figured, they increment with each post elsewhere (grin). Still, here's one for the books, eih?

Cloud9 got the second part but I think the first part is better:
May you legs grow together…

And of course:
Thinner...

But we can't forget:
Don't worry...
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
