Crowd swipes dying man's groceries

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ESA, Ariz., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The sight of an old man being hit by a truck in Arizona touched off a feeding frenzy among witnesses who allegedly stole the dying victim’s groceries.

Not only were the man’s groceries taken, but the only person who tried to help him also had his own bags taken.

Wonderful. And this happened probably only yards from several places where cheap fast food was readily available.

I'm looking forward to things going soooo well. Time to buy more ammo.

reminds me of piranhas; an injured piranha will be eaten by a group of it's own and will be stripped of any meat within seconds.

Objectively, they needed it more than he did at that point.

However, there are taboos, there are good reasons for them, and we hope they are broken only in desperate times or not at all. The fact that it happened there and now is not a good portent of how things will go when that place is subjected to a real test.

I agree, this is not a good sign.

Subjectively, it’s supposed to be what differentiates us from the beasts of the field. Mankind pretends to be something it is not.

Stealing a dead man's groceries is certainly bad karma but it is not the worst thing that happened here. The real tragedy is a man was Murdered by a craven motorist and will likely get away with it because he used his truck as the murder weapon. In common English law murder by hit and run is murder in the second degree. The fact is we have rewritten the laws of manslaughter to fit our cartopia world. If you kill people with your car there is a good chance you will never see jail time.

I disagree, while you raise a good point about a technicality of law, what really shocks people is not the dredges of the earth that commit such crimes, but the bystanders that supported it by their own despicable actions.

Hmmmm

"This is a very close community here, especially Mexican. If there's a problem here, people help," Rangel said. "For them to steal that man's groceries, I can't see that. We'll find those people and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Rangel said prostitutes and drug abusers frequent the area but that his customers routinely walk home late at night without problems.

I have driven through this "very close community" and locked the doors as I did so.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Bas', 'r')eminds me of piranhas; an injured piranha will be eaten by a group of it's own and will be stripped of any meat within seconds.

Interestingly, this happens most ferociusly if the water they are swimming in is very warm or very confined.

I think maybe the heat has been turned up, or there are more people feeling boxed in...

Just think of the poor starving people who had to steal that food and now have to live with the burning guilt. Don't be so quick to point the finger of guilt.

In my opinion the real crime is that the old man was so p$$r he had to get his groceries and then wait for a bus yet I am not surprised that so many here see it so differently.

This sort of thing is common in impoverished areas, and has been going on throughout human history. It's what we do when we're in need. We strip the dead of stuff they'll no longer be needing.

We'll be seeing a lot more of this as time goes by, won't we?

Wait... this is the US of A, not Darfur! Anyone whether illegal immigrant or unemployed Louisiana hurricane flood victim can get a meal to eat. The only reason people go hungry in this country is out of neglect.

There is no condoning these kinds of actions, just because one is poor, it's nothing more than looting.

If you choose to believe without a shadow of a doubt that an "end" is near due to the peaking of oil supplies and that mankind is nothing but an animal then yes I can see someone coming to the same conclusion yet look deeper and you will find a species that has overcome great adversity and only recently been so spoiled, so over fed, so dumbed down to the point where otherwise educated individuals will not be able to see anything else.

If it ws a dog and he left the scene he would be in jail now.
If it was a cat, I'd have to scratch him.

In a way it reminds me of turkeys, they made them dumb with big breasts so they are easier to take care of.

For the past few generations we in the west have been wealthy enough due to cheap energy to avoid experiencing this type of scavenging as a regular sort of occurance. Because of this historically unprecedented recent period of wealth, even the poorest could get by without stripping the dead of their final possessions.

But as i read this article, I realized that in a short time mob-driven horrors will become commonplace. A some point in the near future, the media will cease reporting this type of event as newsworthy even when the vile and hungry mob strips the freshly dead of their clothing and gold fillings too.
