My favorite line from my favorite movie. I don't know who is suffering more, San Diegans or the folks in Philadelphia, I'm referring to sports fans of course. I know that many of you don't care about this. That's probably wise. But I like to follow sports. My town's teams are falling apart. The Chargers are fading, the Padres are fading. I should know better than to care about this. But if you are from Philadelphia then you know how we sports fans in San Diego feel.

I wouldn't worry too much about enjoying sports, mate. Sport has been around with us for several thousand years and I'd dare to guess it'll be around as long as there's a big enough community of humans.

Personally, I'm enjoying following the Rugby World Cup at the moment.

One of the few things I'll miss the telly for, being able to watch sports being played a long distance away.

Yeah, good movie.

Loads better than II. I never did see III. Was it worthwhile (no spoilers por favor!)?

The person that I first nominate to be eaten by the starving hordes when Peak Oil comes is Bruce Arians, the O-coordinator for the Steelers. If you missed the game against the Cards, Arizona was constantly getting into the backfield with 8 in the box and Willie Parker averaged less than 2 per carry on the ground with a long of 20 (with is pathetic for Parker) and we were averaging 8-10 per attempt through the air, yet Arians kept calling runs up the middle for tiny Parker to be swallowed up for losses or 2 yard runs. Good job, Jackass, you cost us the game. Get into the boiling pot, Bruce!

SD - HAHAHA. Sure ya wanna get rid of MartyBall? You can't win a playoff game if you don't make it to the playoffs.

Philly - They're NFC. With the team they have in the conference they are in, it's not over for them until they start 1-7. They can always turn it around.

Great movie. Linda hamilton was hot I prefered her in pt 2 though. pt 3 I regret seeing.

The Raiders won today so I was happy. However speaking of weapons - Culpepper got the job done but the person to build a recovering team around he isn't. I do quite like their new coach. Kiffin comes across as a good man to rebuild the team.

I'll miss wasting a few hours on sundays after this comes to an end.

New Yorkers in general may be OK with several teams to root for, but the glaring omission in your post is Mets fans.

The Chargers should never have fired Schottenchoker. They were absolutely dominant all of last year and completely outplayed New England only to have some fluky things happen. Instead of sticking with the plan, they bail on Martyball and go to leatherface, and now are in disarray.

Good luck to the Pads tonight.

They've got the best current pitcher in professional baseball on the mound tonight, Jake Peavy, so it should be interesting. As for the Chargers, that's depressing. Pretty much the same players as they had last year. Now they are getting their asses kicked in every town. What the heck happened? Maybe you are right about the head coach thing. I've always assumed that it was the players and the recruiters that mattered most. Perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe the intelligence and strategy at the top matter a great deal.

Be of good cheer, friend. The Buckeyes are 5-0 and That Team Up North fell off the charts first two games.

Ah, you are an Ohioan? And yes, I misspoke Philadelphia for the Mets. My bad. As I said, I was pretty much toast yesterday. I'm doing better today and I hope the Pads win tonight.

Well, I was born in a small town in the Genesee River valley of Upstate NY and raised in just to the north in Kodak country on the southern shores of Lake Ontario.

Born of Irish, German, and Seneca heritage; almost exactly 1/3 each, by my best reckoning; which is not an uncommon mix in the region.

I intend to return there, for many reasons.

Not for pro football though . . . no way. I live through four losing superbowls with Jim Kelly and Marv Levy, only to discover years that it was their offensive coordinator that was the genius coach.

You can't out-do my sports heartache!

Are you kidding me? San Diego sports franchises have been perpetual losers since the early 60's (except for the San Diego Soccers and they shut down).

You might have me there. The Rochester Amerks brought home some hockey championships, I can't complain.

But hey, the 1961 Chargers were the bomb. Lance Alworth and John Hadl. Too bad they didn't have a superbowl back then.

So what did I tell you MD, what did I freaking tell you. Trevor Hoffman is the goat, he should hang it up. And I should quit following sports since I live in San Diego.

Wow, Pen, I fell asleep with the Pads up two in the 13th. I can't believe they melted down and gave up three in the bottom half of the inning. Pure heartbreak hotel.

MD, you better pray Michigan doesn't find a good replacement for Lloyd after this year. Coach Gump is overmatched against guys like sweater vest. Once we bring in a good tactician, order will be restored in the rivalry. What happened in that national championship game, anyway? I have never seen Tressel get outcoached like that. Pretty much the story of San Diego sports. I could accept the 1984 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Nobody could beat them. But San Diego has fielded some dominant teams too and yet they always lose. Last year's Chargers, the 1981 Chargers with Dan Fouts and Kellen Winslow, totally superior teams and yet they managed to lose. I think it's a message from the gods, give it up and quit following sports. It's vain and stupid. I did see as a lad at the county swimming finals (where I placed second in butterfly) the then World Record holder in backstroke who went on to win a gold medal and two silvers at the 1972 Olympics. You should have seen that guy swim. It was amazing.
