Horizontal drilling could be an outcome here, that's what they do here in holland underneath the "waddenzee" ; drilling with an angle from the shore (for gas).

I think that is what we will see in the near future, drill and explore anywhere and everywhere for every last drop of oil.

Perhaps Thompsons aware of peak oil and our coming energy crisis. Or hes just falling in line with most republicans trying to pick up votes from the base. I have to agree that when shit starts hitting the fan the gloves will come off. Greenpeace and the Sierra Club will be powerless to stop the drilling. The democrats will be shooting themselves in the foot trying to oppose drilling as oil heads north of 100 dollars a barrel. Not to say more drilling will solve much but I would say its better we get those extra few mbpd here than through some bloody occupation of the middle east.

Wouldn't it be even better that we didn't try to squeeze up until the last drop? Not that I think it's going to happen, but we're talking about "best cases" here.
