Peak Oil Poetry

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Tue 18 Sep 2007, 00:55:06

I know what everybody thinks when they hear the word 'poetry': they whip out their lugars. But I didn't want this to be buried in the psyche section. No doubt some of you will say, 'you should have left it there.' heh heh. Write something better, then criticize.

To the tune of 'Home On The Range':

If we just had more oil
Then our fate we could foil
Eating food from so far far away
But our chances we've blown
Now we reap what we've sown
No more nights oh so cheerful and gay.

Screwed, screwed in a Crash
Now the Bankers ain't got any Cash!
Guess I never will know
How it all came so low
Now they won't even gather my trash.

You have the romantic heart of the TRUE poet PMS. When I read , "screwed , screwed in a crash" , I felt like I was there , soaring but yet falling .... I feel your angst , be free like the owl PMS , gliding silently and powerfully, master of the night sky , covering us with your lyric wisdom and beauty. All hail the penultimate one!!!!

I once had a car and I drove really far
but now I put my beer can on it
and pretend its a bar.

How'd I do?

What you don't like my humor?

Ok. I'll give you an original.

Solace did I seek
But solace had to go
To leave its mark on wind swept peak
Where dare not flower grow
For solace did I weep
For solace did not know
All that was
Still might of been
If only did not go

No bullshit. Yes. Why does it suck?

I've a big library of poems and stuff that I've written. Just thought that I'd show PMS that I can write 'something'.

Of course if you followed the Zombie thread then you already know that I can write if I put my mind to it...instead of hiding behind humour.

That's an honest attempt at an honest use of language in the divine way. There really is a lot to say, and the usual ways of language don't work, do they?

No , it's very good. Are you refering to the urban zombie response team thread from way back , started by the annoying blond?

I saw a zombie down the street
Who was who was good to eat?
Chewable good tastes just like wine
Cannibal flesh goes down so fine
Some threads just don't repeat.

That was good stuff , I couldn't help you's write any cause I got real busy around then, I did try to keep up by reading it , you all made me proud how you's kept it going and interesting , I really wasn't expecting to see so much imagination and ability from so many different people , I would drag the wife over to read every couple days like I was showing her my baby and she would smile and nod like :so WTF is that 'sposed to be?She didn't get it. Good fiction is as good as reading PO posts, whattaya think? start something new? How about this ; see who wants to write a story and we all start one and maybe write like a chapter a week, or alternate writing the same story like before?

I was wondering when the zombies would return...it's just a matter of time.

I tried to get a poetry topic going awhile back. I love poetry and read a lot of it when I can. Was reading some modern stuff recently and noticed that much of it could be appreciated by people here, if you like that kind of thing. Loss and alienation are topics much explored in art. In fact, I don't know very many good poems that don't address these fundamental concepts in some way.

Of course I didn't write it, but here ya go:

Link

Maybe I'll post some more I've discovered and hope to see more from others.
