Peak civilization

Sometimes I wish life to go on like it is now - nothing to complain about it yet, and sometimes I hate the organization of our society and hope for the end of oil (In fact I should not be talking or worrying about these, just live in the present. Not easy to do, I am still on it :) )

We are all smart people, we can read , write, we have read books , seen movies and so on. But even today it's hard to find people to form a real post capitalism society where nobody cares about how to gather more shiny things and have others work for him

After peak oil I imagine a world of stupid people trying to survive, and their organization will be something like in the middle ages. And superstitions will come back, maybe even witch hunting and inquisition - "It's him ! The heretic ! He is the cause for all this !"

Maybe in 100 years when things stabilize, people will start reading again, and not just trying to survive
Some say : food first, reading and acting like a Zen master only if there is food. But I say that there are things more important than survival - maybe if I were in a life or death situation I will change my mind, I will not know until then. But now I am sure there are

The majority of people do not care about such things now, after peak oil I imagine some really dark times.
Reading and learning are very important - imagine a world full of Zen masters, all our problems would be gone :)

One day there will be so many houses, that people will be bored and will go live in tents. "Why are you living in tents ? Are there not enough homes ?" "Yes there are, but we play this Economy game". Now it's "Crisis" time !Too many houses! Yes, we are insane!

Probably right. I'd never seen a Zen master having seven kids. :D

And yes, reading and learning are essential. We can't go backwards to being hunter gatherers again (the world, by the time industrial society is done with it, simply won't be fit for that type of lifestyle, unless 99%+ people die). If humans do survive thru the millennia to come I imagine we will be a lot wiser for it. Evolution is about to come back from his (her?) vacation. No more "no child left behind".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')shoka the Great of India, after defeating the Kingdom of Kalinga in the Kalinga War and witnessing the bloodshed that resulted from the war, renounced violence, and at the height of his empire in 250 BC adopted Buddhism. He became a person who is sometimes regarded as the most enlightened ruler throughout history and envisioned a world governed by the compassionate eightfold path of Buddhism, sending out missionaries from Ancient India to as far as Ancient Rome and Egypt.
