$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Plantagenet', 'H')aving an air-force wide stand down to review safety procedures emphasizes how important safety procedures are.
You obviously have not spent one day in armed service of the USA.
While in the Marines - personnel safety, procedural safety, and equipment safety is drilled EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY.
What happens tomorrow is out of the ordinary.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dbruning', ' ')Hell, at the very least I'd lie Say it was going to happen on the 15th, get it done on the 14th, and kick the living crap out of anyone that tried to take advantage the next day
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('roccman', 'W')hat happens tomorrow is out of the ordinary.
Of course it is.
The intent is to strongly emphasize just how important safety procedures are. Its not the standard drill, which is repeated each day and by the mere fact of being done every day becomes routine.

Thus underscoring a very likely scam executed by those who brought you 911.

Every few months most military units have stand downs. You sit around and have group meetings and view safety presentations. That is normal.
In my time in the Navy, I remember at least three full, nationwide stand downs. During these stand downs capability still exists to operate. Read that again. Operations may be suspended but it's not like you CANT operate at a moments notice if you need to.
Second observation: Who here knows in complete detail what the actual level of stand down is? Do we know for sure that all units are in fact standing down, or are we just being sensational? While I agree it has some very far fetched potential to be a set up, reality does not point to that as an option.
Please show me where it has been publicly stated that no alert aircraft will be available or where it states that in case of an emergency no capability exists to operate at a moments notice?
Anyone? Who here knows for sure? If you don't, than anything else you engage in is nothing short of a WAG. Period.
Please note I said that unit stand downs are normal and not command wide ones. A unit example would be a single squadron or maintenance unit. I do agree it is not "normal" for an entire command to stand down, but it does occur and it has in the past. Specifically in all branches of the military.
I do work for Naval Aviation in the form of a contractor. We had a service wide stand down last fall. (As in no Navy planes were to take off and do their normal stuff.) It lasted a whole day. It was publicized in the media a few days before it happened. It was in response to a couple of accidental crashes where the pilots had to eject.
This is nothing.
Edit: After reviewing AP's link, I guess it was March '06, not last Fall.
The big short positions which end Sept. 21st were mainly on the European Stock market. If these were placed by individuals with knowledge of some planned terror event, they may have been linked to the Islamicist plan to bomb major airports in Germany, which was taken down last week. The Germans are still pursuing 10 more terrorists, but that cell was penetrated and disrupted and the explosives already swapped out and confiscated.
